Not all foyers have a welcoming feel.
Those are the former swinging French doors that were originally located between the living and dining rooms until TSO's father removed them and put them up against a basement wall in 1961. We rescued them and got the doors refinished and we converted them into pocket doors.
Remember this photo? The one that shows the "behind-the-scenes"? The contractor's brother (the foreman/rough-in guy) and I did the installation.
The front exterior door is similar to the pocket doors, with 15 beveled glass panes.

EDIT: Note how must we had to level the ceiling with all those sistered floor joists.

There shouldn’t be any creaking sounds from the floor above with the joists reinforced.
I heard that it is very comfy except when someone opens the front door.
They're not really reinforced. The sistering in this case was simply to provide a level surface for the drywall, crown moulding, and the trim around the light fixtures.
Old houses can be funky, a lot of out of square.
Now, here is an example where sistering was for reinforcement.
See that stud to the right of the cast iron main stack, how it is not vertical, and how it is barely under the floor joist above it?
The cast iron bathtub is right above it!
We figure, when the house was built (1917) that, after the framing was competed, the plumbers came in and said,"We got to put some pipes here." and grabbed the nearest sledge hammer to make room for it!
You will see that the contractor has two sistered pieces, on either side of that joist. The one to the right is a 2x8 to shore up the floor joist on top of the angled stud (the 2x4 to the left is for leveling the ceiling).
While we had the walls and ceiling opened up we replaced that mess of original plumbing to correct a few issues.

We call the house our Fun House! We were able to level ceilings and walls, but the floors?
Here is the new plumbing from the living room side. You can clearly see how far out of plumb (no pun intended. Yeah, right! ) the stud is, now to the left of the main stack.
Note the 2x4 and the wedge between it and that stud to make the electrical box plumb.
