We heard a new real estate term this past week on HGTV. It must be important. In two episodes the hunters kept using the term "primary" almost every time the camera was on them. What the heck is a primary? Oh, it's what everyone else calls the master bedroom. We suspect HGTV invented the term and told them to use it often. Okay, if I call it primary instead of master does that add 10K to the value of the house? Inquiring minds want to know!

The other year someone was looking a house with what we would call a sunroom. They called it a conservatory. Wow, that has to add at least 15K to the value! Who the heck wants a sunroom when you could have a conservatory?

Commonly interchangeable terms back in the century long before any of us were born. We have a sunroom that I call an enclosed porch... So there, now we have at least three terms for it.

In the earliest days of flying the typewriter professionally, my assignment is an interview with a Hanna-Barbara artist. Inside the H-B studios. Universal City? Studio City? One of the two. A woman with hair that reaches her ankles gives me the tour before the interview. The Flintstones began when a doodle of a caveman on the LA freeways is passed around the office ....

Everyday I feed sunflower seeds to the small birds. Recently some opportunistic crows started showing up. They are very vocal, their communications have been very complex and loud. In the last two days a falcon has showed up and is terrorizing the crows. The falcon seems to have no interest in the squirrels. What it does is pick a blackbird and closely follows it in the air, then breaks off and watches the crows on the ground. It appears to be just playing, it looks like it could move in for the kill at will. What’s odd is a nearby field has had a huge population of seagulls, they sleep there. The falcon doesn’t seem to like seagulls.

A complex community.

Squirrels are mostly too large for a falcon(I think). Seagulls too. But…as I say, they gotta eat too(the birds).
The blue jays attempt to rob my bird houses. It freaks my wife out. But such as life. I have 4 bird feeding(squirrel) spots around my yard. I have hawks around but no falcons.

Yes, a very complex community.

From what I understand, there are many species and they come in different sizes. I don’t know what type this one is. I haven’t seen one in the area I feed the birds before. I think that the loud crows peaked it’s interest.

Oh yes I know people who don't pack clothes. They buy new clothes where they go. It makes some sense.

Another option we've used with great success: Ship 'em ahead, ship 'em back.

It started when we drove up to Canada for a family funeral. We went straight there (in one day), with mourning wear in the suit bag & case, so it made sense to take it all along on that leg. But after the ceremonies, we decided to amble our way back down over the course of a week, during which, we'd never need those togs, tie, shoes, etc. We've often shipped back souvenirs on long road trips, to avoid having to cart them from place to place. So the light bulb went on, and I realized FedEx didn't care if it was a souvenir or a suit in the box. We put a whole suitcase and bag in a box somewhere outside Toronto, paid the minimal, "It'll get there eventually" rate, and off we went.

There's a whole industry of private couriers & shipping in Japan that'll cart your luggage from place to place as you travel, so you don't have to hassle with it. Same idea, different trucks.

That is one of the greatest movies of all time.

I read about this trend a couple of months back. It's a newly-minted euphemism designed to avoid use of the term "master," lest anyone be neo-pseudo-traumatized by that word, with the implication that it can't possibly mean anything other than "owner-of-people."

It's ridiculous, which also means it's perfect for HGTV.

And by some chance, speaking of words that presently require context if used, asked today for an estimate to swap out the semi-hollowbody's Volume-Volume-Tone-Tone to Master-Volume-Volume-Tone. Add a Switchcraft jack. Level the pickups.

All because the Stingray is coming back. Took the call from my luthier Wednesday when I was in a meeting break. Four or five months? is how long EBMM needed to put me at the head of the queue. New bridge hardware (you've seen how manky it is), and new preamp.

That's what it takes to get it playing again, all right with me. A non-perfectly-authentic Stingray that can be played is better than a 100 percent vintage, non-functional bass. IMO.
