Yes was totally my jam when I was a youngster; the one band I was kind of maniacally obsessed with. That lasted through the Bruford and Wakeman years but my love for them began to wane when White and Moraz came on board.

I am not sure why, but there was something unique about Bruford's overall sound, and particularly that snare hit, that I just couldn't get over missing. And I also think that, like many others in that time period, I wanted to move out into different sorts of listening experiences and had always been a closet headbanger of sorts (though my headbanging was more Fripp than Sabbath inspired). I was also drawn more into some of the fusion of the day.

Later in high school I did get heavy into Gong, so all is not lost, as @Morrighan knows The trilogy of Angel's Egg, Flying Teapot, and You is still very listenable to me, even if the lyrics are a bit dated now.

...I saw YES before I ever heard a recorded track by them and was blown away. ..... If I remember correctly they opened for a headlining band ...... Unfortunately for them they could not hold the hometown crowd after YES finished their set. I ,too, left.

This was exactly my own experience on April 14, 1973, when I went to see It's A Beautiful Day in a small college gym (Adelbert Gymnasium at CWRU) IABD couldn't hold a candle to Genesis (one of the two opening bands, on their first US tour in support of Foxtrot; the first opening band was a pre-Disco Sylvester and the Hot Band, another new one for me). Although, in IABD's defense, we did stick around for their show.

Hard to state one doesn't like something if you've never given it a listen.

I know some people who are that way regarding food.

Ah. Gong! Right up there with Amon Düül II! Big fan of Hillage's eponymous releases. Not so much what came and still comes after, like 777 (before he was forced to change the name to System 7; no surprise that). I find his and Miquette's work after that extremely boring. Wish I hadn't spent the spacebucks on those CDs.

I have all of T.D.'s early CDs, and a bunch of later ones. Melrose from 1990 is one of the later ones I really like. Still love the quote by Franz Kafka they included with the liner notes.

The crows maintain, a single crow could destroy heaven. That is doubtless, but doesn't move heaven, for heaven implies precisely: impossibility of crows.
