Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Someone at a hospital my wife worked at charted "large bowel movement ambulating down the hall."
I think maybe I forgot and that came from a book about good charting, but with some BadExamples :D

They did make them stop charting fat people as having general edema. My wife never did. No point since they have height and weight charted and they clearly aren't swollen; they just have fat cells all pumped up with triglycerides. I have belly edema, secondary to beer and food intake.

I wrote something about my heart attack I suffered at 23th February. I had to go to a rehab for three weeks, and I am not grumpy at all - because I am ready to leave tomorrow.

I am a lucky guy, because I had "the right feel" about the enormous pain I suffered, first thinking about stomach problems, but..... different. So I went to my Doctor immediately, and he sent me to hospital, where they put a catheter into my blood vessel and opened up the coronary arteries again. I just layed on my side and watched the Docs doing their routine. Contrast agent, balloon, stent, looked like an easy job.

After four days in hospital they sent me home, where I found a letter that sayd that I had to go to rehab, payed by German health insurance. So I traveled to the Lake of Konstance, where I checked in on Thursday 9th of March. Nice place, nice rooms, lots of Docs and nurses.

It started on Friday with Ergometer, bycikling with some cables glued to your chest, an ultrasonic examination of my heart - where the Doc was amazed how good my heart came back to live after this short time! In the evening there was Ergotherapie, kinda Bodybuilding stuf, but for the really, really sick. No more than 6 lbs, slow, slower.....

Every day was filled with exercises, swimming, biking, ergotherapy, having a stroll at the lake - and some lectures about heart attacks (how come and how to avoyd), good food or nutrition, "how to quit smoking", you name it.

I was here one week, as my three sons arrived to make a visit - and to bring me my favourite Stingray 5. Yeah, that was what I had been missing so far.

OK, three weeks of doing lots of exercises passed by, and today I saw the Doc the last time. He told me that my heart muscle didn't even have the typical scar that occurs after a heart attack, and that the pumping volume is as good as it should be. So this was what we call "a warning shot".

I had to write that much because I had to read a lot in this thread. A lot about good nutrition that looks like what the horses get fed with, and I can say that I was stunned by how good the food was here. There was a breakfeast buffet in the morning with fresh, crispy rolls, cold cuts, jam, honey, yogurt in different flavours, at least in different colours, different cereals, fresh fruits, sliced for mixing under cereals or yogurt, lots of coffee, tea, great.

For lunch you could choose between the regular meal, an alternative meal and something vegetarian. Today I had a deer ragout with homemade noodels, red cabbadge, it was wonderfull. Before that I had green salad with Balsamico Vinegar and Olive Oil, a soup with some vegetables in it, and after that a dessert. OK, small portions, but all fresh and delicious.

I have to say, if this is what they call "healthy nutrition", I have no problems with eating healthy. OK, I have to admit that there was only a little to no salt on the food, but they found taste by using fresh herbs. I loved the sauces or gravys, no fat, but delicious. So I signed in for the lecture "healthy cooking". I am so exited to cook the way I have learned here.

And it sure is not like "no more eating manly at all", but like "do it, some times, and not as much you are used to!"

BTW, the Doc told us, that nurishment is the smallest risk factor of all. So there is no need to have meals that look like what horses get to eat. So today I am not grumpy at all.

Forgive me..... ;)

That's great news, Sir! Glad you escaped without damage, and escaped rehab, although that sounds a lot nicer than you get here!

Salt on foods is the easy one. It doesn't take long to not be missed. Sodium hiding in foods, not so easy. Not even in the good ingredients like cheese.

Great news man! I have been eating (really) healthier for the last 3 months... fortunately I like healthier foods anyway, just less of it and a little more strict about choices. Salads 5 meals a week, but the salads can be very interesting if you include all kinds of veggies and a little chicken or turkey. I also learned to make my own balsamic dressings, something as simple as adding a couple tablespoons of apricot, peach, cherry, plum, rasberry/blackberry puree to a cup of dressing can make all the difference in the world with flavor.

I'm not fat. But my cells are.

Congrats sir, many many thousands more steps on the treadmill for you, imagine chasing that nurse in a skirt LOL. I wish good health for you!

Salad today for dinner:
All chopped
  • Romaine
  • chicken thighs
  • walnuts-chrushed
  • cherry tomatoes
  • golden raisins
  • celery-diced
  • dressing-fish oil with lemon(Erikson-usually consumed for Omega 3. Very tasty with the lemon)
Next time: Grated carrots, diced Fuji apples

Very tasty and filling.

Started off with a small piece of dark chocolate. Also water to drink.

I like chopped almonds, snap peas, thawed frozen corn and peas, finely shredded cabbage, cucumber, a tablespoon of Ortega mild diced green chilies, blueberries, raspberries, sliced fruit, Mandarin oranges, flash cooked broccoli... all make a salad taste more interesting.

Thank you all a lot!

Yes, it is not easy to change all that "bad behaviors" you accustomed through all the years. ;)

I love homecooking, and it was wonderfull to learn a lot about how to prepare meals even more healthy - and this with lots of lust for eating.

Less smoking means having a better sense of taste, and you sure are allowed to use salt, but not too much because of hidden ammounts of it in lots of food like (as you said) cheese, cold cuts, sausages and so on. The bigger problem is sugar in all its species as white sugar, fruit sugar, corn treacle and many more.

One of the things that you can do for being sure not having humungous ammounts of salt and sugar in your food is cooking by yourself, it is that simple.

Yes, @agedhorse, salads can be really interesting. They fill up the stomach without calories and fat. And I fell in love with all the soups they providet. Think about a kittchen that has to serve about 300 meals a day, so you can't do it right for everybody. But every meal was delicious - and enough for me, as well as they put me on redux diet. :(

I feel great - again - and I am happy to get out of this rehab and come home, sleeping in my own bed. First thing at home, after getting lots of love from my dog, I will plug in my basses and turn up the volume, just to let my neighbours know that I am back again - and well. :D

Stop making a weak, grumpy man hungry! ;)

And all of it does sound delicious. Can't wait until I come home....... :D

I love a bit of peanut butter on roasted chicken filet on top of a green salad, first chopped in small pieces, than roasted a short time, together with a mild Balsamico vinegar. And again: have a look at how much salt and sugar are used in this peanut butter.

[QUOTE="Buster Brown, post: 19884724, member: 109807".hell, I was lucky to get my BA in communications and Political Science...talk about a useless degree!!

Most useless degrees include Psychology (mine) or any other liberal arts, women's studies, etc...[/QUOTE]

Indeed. That's probably true....guess I could have gone into Broadcasting, and it would have worked out, but only when I had a chest cold. Or, as my Wife tells me...when I have a cold I sound EXACTLY like Barry White. Damn good attribute if I wanted to sing lead in a disco.....

After dealing with my mother in law today, who is in late stage Alzheimers, it's really great to hear the good health news from the folks here. I'm glad you and your spouses are doing well. It's a nice change to hear good news.

Having said that, I can't resist one more poo joke.
I just ate four cans of alphabet soup and had the biggest vowel movement ever!

Unsalted butter, peanut butter and many other products are really good!

Raw stevia is a great replacement for sugar. We buy it by the bag and refill a large shaker. Invalid Link Removed
