Harmonics...we all need to get Bach to this.

Simply because there are more variables at play than most players will admit to, and as we age, can hear. Harmonics work up as well as down (so the science tells me) and can cause the equivalent of verbal fist fights. Can we hear below 20Hz, and if so can anything faithfully reproduce it, other than Questeds?

Pianos highest frequency around 4150Hz, add in double, then the 3rd and 4th orders up...you get it.

Class A transistor stages perform well and have a wide bandwith. Couple that with well designed transforms and you have some good harmonics. Neve preamps such as the 1073 are done this way and sound great.

I really was alluding to just instrument pres for the moment...but...

It really can be argued (by some) that the pre amps that spec the best are not the most desirable

If I was going for super specs., I sure wouldn't be doing it with discrete transistors/FETs. It depends on the goals.

I could have done this same circuit with op-amps, but would have had a challenge with current draw for this application though will revisit it this way to be sure.

People use high end mic pres with instruments. Many have instrument inputs. You can plug directly into some recording consoles. They have good specs but the tone is there as well. He talks about the harmonics. The pre is made by BAE, it is based on the 1073.

For a period, my stage bass rig was all 500 series API, so yeah..

Yes tha man was gay in a time where gay men were arrested and thrown in jail. He had lovers who promptly blackmailed him. This was one of the factors that lead to his demise. That he had to take his landlady with him is the saddest part.
