I am 71 and can be Grumpy under the following conditions:
  1. The weather is too hot
  2. The weater is too cold
  3. My wife is talking
  4. I'm watching the news
  5. I'm out of tune
  6. I read stupid stuff on the innerweb
  7. Other, as needed
So if I get a number, great; otherwise, I'll go take a nap.

I really have nothing new to add to this thread...but I did want to remind everyone of a few things.

You may not play, try out, or hold any of my basses. Not even my cheapie MTD Kingston. Ever.
You may not borrow my amp or cabinet (unless my band is hosting a jam).
You may not get up and play with our band at a regular gig. Come back on a jam night.

Thank you. I now feel better after sharing my most important personal grumpy old fart 'rules'.

Yep. Mine is a clip-on, circa 1957-58. My Dad could tie bow ties with the best of them. He taught me how to tie long ties at a very early age but somehow bows slipped through the cracks...and still elude me. Even with several excellent YouTube videos available on how to tie the bow I still can't get it down to my OCD satisfaction. And now many of my friends (and their sons and grandsons) are wearing and tying bows. And that makes me very GRUMPY. Time to up my game, I guess. :banghead:

Not only did their parents make them wear bow ties , they took pictures of them! Oh , wait...... my parents made me wear bow ties and took pictures of me!!! Threrapy for all of us at Dr. Shrinkworthys this Thursday at 4pm.

"Doc , I play bass guitar and fart on stage."
"Did your parents make you wear a bow tie?"
"Yes...... yes they did."
"That explains everything..............Fifty dollars please."
"But Doc......What can i do about this?"
"There is nothing you can do.... your situation is hopeless.......Go play your bass and fart ....................Seventy-five dollars please."
"Crap."

Well, today is a kind of mile stone for my Lady and I. Forty five years of married blitz.

Doen't seem that long ago that I met her at a gig on June 6th 1968. Seventeen years old and out in a club with her girlfriends. Once I nabbed her I never let her go!! :D

A little late but congratulations Paul. You set a fine example for us young pups. :)

Sept. 12th this year will mark my Mom and Dads 50th. Which reminds me, I need to get together with my brother and do something nice for them.

We didn't have the bow ties, but we weren't allowed long hair like you and FFTT!

In 9th grade, I had returned from a year in Germany with what they considered radical long hair.
The principal told me my hair was still not short enough after I went and got a trim.
We got into it and he suspended me for refusing to go back and have it cut shorter.
About 2 hours later, my mom got there and tore him new one and threatened legal action.
I was a good kid, good grades, never in trouble for anything else.

Next fall dress codes were thrown out entirely.

That would be nice. Sometimes kids tend to overlook the events in their folks lives. My son threw us a party to mark forty years. The power went off and we all partied in the blackout. It ended up being a GREAT party. :)

My father passed away suddenly in '77 from a cardiac arrest while in the care of Walter Reed.
I was out on the road with my band at age 23. They told me he would be O.K.

My mom passed after 6 miserable years in a nursing home back in 2006.
A stroke destroyed her life.

In both cases, the cause or my father's death and my mom's stroke was a cardiac cath procedure.

Both were laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington.

That photo of me when I was 6 was taken as part of an article about my father in the Baltimore
Sun after his quick thinking and gift for logistics helped save the life of a Navy diver who would have died without the iron lung my father found and rushed to their location.
