Agreed @beans-on-toast . I got a big script for painkillers after getting my jaw drilled and gums sewed together for a tooth implant coming up in October. I just threw the script away and ate about a dozen aspirin a day for three days. I've never liked the feeling pharmaceuticals do to your mind, and I've always been too paranoid to use recreational drugs. EXCEPT sometimes I do like my 'cocktails.' :bag: Those few occasions Carey sends me to the Shed! :laugh: She hates the smell of alcohol.

Greetings, all.

I switched from classical guitar to electric bass two years ago when my left hand fingers just couldn't meet the demands of that instrument any more (I'm 72). I also recently discovered Talkbass, and I've found these forums to be enormously helpful as a learning resource. It's also good to know that there are others (like you) who are enjoying this phase of life as musicians, grumpy or not.

I've joined an otherwise acoustic group that basically plays folk/rock and blues, with some contemporary country (for lack of a better term) thrown in. We had our first gig two weeks ago at a lake in New Hampshire. Aside from having to help haul in, set up, and break down a lot of heavy amplifiers and speakers, it was a great first experience, and I'm looking forward to more!

I've been doing back exercises for the past 10 years and riding horses almost daily for the last 30+ years and I think in my case the biggest contributor to back pain has been stress, not physical activity. We rehearsed our equine entertainment show to music this weekend, which included a segment where I gallop one horse (wild caught Mustang) while ponying another (very large Andalusian) horse next to me. It's called "The Legend of the Mustang" which can get kind of rough and on the edge, is more a rodeo entertainment act but we are contracted every day for 3 weeks at our State Fair as part of a much bigger non-rodeo equine entertainment show. Pretty much zero back pain, even playing hard, now that I have eliminated much of the stress from my life.

I am amazed that you are still on TB! I thought that would be the first thing to drop to get rid of stress...:bag: ;).

I've got an appointment for vertebrae injection(s) in a few weeks. Really hope that helps.

I've had the steroid injections quite a few times. Works better for some than others. Some need a redo about every six months. I get a year or two out of them. Side effects can be bad, but they're pretty rare. Ask about those and read on a real medical website. Like mayo clinic. Kenalog (SP?) is a fairly common steroid used for this. The internet is full of horrid claims. Get the story from a very reputable organization.

Any medication and most procedures can really cause unexpected, rare and even fatal reactions. My wife once had a patient that took a common OTC that no one would 2nd guess. One pill turned him from a highly paid professional in his 30's with a wife and kids into a stroked out person that can't take care of himself, has trouble speaking, his wife left (nice), kids don't visit him. You have to decide if the benefits outweigh the risks.

Congrats on joining the low-end, I think?

Now ya gotta trade all that heavy stuff for some of the new lightweight stuff that will cut your load in weight 1/3 to 1/2. :thumbsup:

Responding to Friday's roll call after a rough weekend. On Saturday morning at about 4 we get a call from the police who are at our city flat which had been broken into. The perps were caught red-handed thanks to a neighbor who had woken to the noise of the punks climbing in through our side window which was a crack open. They had to climb on the stairwell awning to get there.

They had crammed their pockets full of personal information such as letters from the credit card company. My old driver's licence was there too, as I had lost it temporarily a while back with a wallet - it had been recovered during some yard work later.

I had to go to the police station to make my statement. The biggest loss was a parking ticket I got as the statement took longer than I had anticipated.

Wife or myself were not too troubled by this at first but today at work I am feeling depressed. It seems a tenant in our own apartment block had tipped the perps on us being in the country. That tenant has until July 15th to clear out, now.

Hi Paul. Andy is a tough egg, as my dad used to say, most of us grizzled old salts are. I don't let the young'uns get under my skin, somehow as I've gotten older even I (can you believe it LOL) have developed a bit of wisdom that if you present a gift of knowledge to someone and they are disrespectful receiving it, like my mom always said, "Consider the source." I actually feel sorry for most of the Millenials today. One guy posted a question about his amp and ended the post with, "I suck at bass." There is so much lethargy among the young people. We old farts were lucky enough to live when we were REALLY LIVING. We saw greatness. Think of it-- JFK, Martin Luther King-- Jimi Hendrix, Cream, these were all our generation revolutionizing the country.

What do the youth have today? Too many video games, both parents working, school shootings, phones hanging off their hands like they're attached. I have hope for our countries but I must be patient. This sickness must heal.

Otherwise, GOF's have a great week. @rust_preacher I'm glad all you lost was a few deniros for a ticket and not your identity and home possessions. Thank Goodness for small favors...

Good point. The problem is that our band leader owns all the sound equipment, and he apparently likes heavy things. I did recently trade an old Yamaha B50-115 for a Rumble 100, and the Rumble not only sounds much better, it actually is about a third the weight of the Yamaha. But our BL won't let me use it with his set-up either at gigs or rehearsal. I suppose that makes sense since he knows his own equipment, and that makes his life easier. And if there is a technical issue, it's his and not ours....
