What's that? Last year I had to pump $2000 into an IRA just to break even!

Yeah it was sort of wishful thinking, I just calculated my 3rd quarter tax payments (to augment what already comes out of annuities and pay at the max rate) and it's more than I made my first year out of college. In fact my federal, state, and local taxes combined for the year are more than I ever thought I would make as a salary...and yes I get that there's an upside to that story (for which I'm grateful), but it's still a little shocking.

I dunno, later class D bread boxes are pretty powerful. But some claim not as good as a SS bread box. And although well received, tube bread boxes all need to be recapped.

Egads. At least we get nice potholes for our money. I'd opt out and pay cash for services rendered, including road mileage if that were an option.

Everything is still as it was last week. Brought two of my basses to work tonight to share with a coworker who is also a bass player. Wife is away for the weekend visiting our grandson... SO IT'S PARTY TIME!!!

We had a shooting in Fredricton, New Brunswick. Four were killed including two police officers. One a family man in his Forties with kids and the other a mother, also in her Forties with three kids. Very sad. One of the civilians was a bass player.

What's going on up there in Canada? You all seem to have taken a page from the "modern US city" playbook on violence. My impression of Canadians has always been that if something hadn't gone wrong in America's DNA we'd be more like you guys!!

The worst part is that those deaths impact so many others, especially the young children who now face an entirely different childhood than the one their parents planned for them. I think it also subliminally tends to make the police a little quicker to escalate to lethal force in future situations where they would have historically exercised restraint or chosen non-lethal options - at least it would affect me that way.

After the shooting on the Danforth I was shocked and disturbed to discover that hand guns are legal here. I never knew that. I had thought that hunting weapons could be bought by licensed hunters but no hand guns. It’s time that changed.If someone carries a weapon it’s so easy to lose control and fire the thing. Once fired there’s no getting that bullet back.

My mom was there when she died in 2013 and the world today would likely have been a constant source of confusion and fear for her.

I stay working to continue to be current. I sometimes wonder what my late brother would have thought of the world today and he's only been gone 10 years.

I hear you on the staying current thing Will. I have no financial need to work, but continue to remain engaged because as long as I can contribute something I want to, and it's hard enough to keep up and feel relevant while I'm still in the thick of things. I'm not looking forward to the day the world passes me by big time.

...until the day actually comes Jon. I looked forward to the day when I could say no if I wanted to, the day came, and I haven't said no nearly as much as I expected to. For some reason it's just easier to work when you know you can walk anytime you like.

I hope that doesn't sound like I'm some lazy, don't give a damn goofball, but it was a little like graduate school for me. I just didn't feel the pressure I did as an undergrad because I figured even if I completely bombed out, I still had a college degree. If I blew it as an undergrad, I was a college drop out for life.

Goofy logic to be sure, but that's what you get from a unique overachiever like myself...in my case that would be a clearly below average guy who consistently delivers average work.
