Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

A guy where I once worked was giving an anatomy class to medical students. Biological sciences tends to be about memorizing and regurgitating information, not understanding concepts. Students fixate on grades, not learning how to be a cut above. A few of the multiple choice questions involved understanding concepts and applying them.

After the exam, parents and lawyers wasted no time in contacted the dean of the faculty complaining that a few of the questions out of fifty were not on material directly taught in class. How unfair this is. They threatened lawsuits.

When grading, normally if a certain percentage of the class gets the wrong answer to a question, it is not counted in the grade. If that doesn’t make it easy enough for the students, they don’t want the stress of having to think and reason. That doesn’t make good doctors. Many medical students today walk around with computers, selecting symptoms and the machine tells them what to do.

Anyway, even though these questions were already eliminated, the dean quickly in caved to the demands. He didn’t want bad publicity. Thinking related questions were eliminated from future exams. Examinations were dumbed down to a level that the students, their parents, and their lawyers accept. Forget about high standards and challenging the students.

How scary is that.

The students are back in town. They swarm in like locusts, destroying the tranquility.

Of course everything is about them as far as they are concerned. They have these frosh bonding sessions where groups of a hundred or so prance up and down the streets chanting at the top of their lungs. Group after group. This goes on all day for a week. At night they party, drink and scream even louder at all hours as they wonder through the streets vandalizing. This goes on for a month or so.

When I was in school I was terrified of failing and worked my butt off. Kids today don’t seem to have any work ethic. Assignments are done in groups, they are incapable of doing anything on their own.

Same thing here, including some mighty expensive European sports cars!

No military base. As of this morning I have come up with three ideas so far:

#1. Ask my expat Irish buddy where he got his tires for his bike. Same style, nearly the same size. He is not retired and makes a boatload of money working in the Russian oil fields, so paying the extra shipping might have been what he did.

#2. Go to every motorcycle parts store in town and hope I get lucky. (It's been known to happen).

#3, Order the tires through the local Yamaha dealer's parts system and pay more for a set of crappy made in India knockoffs than the price of the Michelin or Pirelli's . But no shipping charges. Still 3 to 4 week wait.
And of course, #4., Balikbayan Box and a long wait :(

so..........I just loaded up the Jeep with my bass amp and one of my PA systems. It’s kinda full! :)
I think I can get my bass in! :roflmao: Playing an open air Sunday Music in the park kinda thing. Possibility of thunder storms. I’m whispering just in case the weather is listening in!!!

Bigger vehicles seem to have a smaller footprint in terms of rear storage. They make up for it it terms of height storage. But you can’t easily stack bags of groceries three high.

If you recently washed your Jeep, you can count on it pouring rain while you are out.

Likely to put a dent in the home brew gear sales, offset only by a sharp increase in sales of Chips Ahoy.

Home brewers have reputedly actually been embracing the whole situation, but you can also get your chips and secret sauce all in the same bag these days if you're into one stop shopping. The big former local greasy spoon space down the street is now a thriving bakery, apparently.

A few years ago I read that in California there are more "medical pot" stores than Starbucks. Californians must have a lot of medical problems. "I wanna get high syndrome" probably tops the charts. Maybe Starbucks should consider selling an "alternate" coffee for those with a doctors excuse in hand :D
No offense to my California brothers but I found it to be an odd state anyway. I would rather see a Starbucks than a pot store. I did some pot in college and it actually scared me how it warped my perception. Give me a drink anytime instead! Carey lived in California for a few years and was glad to get out when she was young. Her brother on the other hand lived there most of his life and she claims California "ruined" him.

We're getting sun today and I'm taking Carey for a pancake at the local airport restaurant. It's actually one of the best places in town to eat and the prices are on par with any other good restaurant. One pancake each (they're 12"!) and a side of links and we're happy. I guess we're going to make use of the sunshine and work around the house today.

Good day to be alive!

Medical pot prescriptions are probably as EZ as getting handicapped vehicle permits.

I respectfully disagree. A doctor can write out a prescription and you go to a pot store. Ever seen the paperwork involved with a handicapped sticker? I helped my mother-in-law (now passed) with her paperwork and it was a nightmare. Much easier to deal with enterprise than government.

Hi @Stumbo !
We had a restaurant like that at our local community airport. They made pancakes the size of manhole cover. One cake feeds a family of 10!

I stand corrected. :-) It just seems everyone has a handicapped card hanging from a rearview mirror.

I'll smoke a joint when it's legal and I'm done using my brain.

My acid test (no pun intended) relative to something I would consume is to ask myself if it's something I'd be comfortable with an individual using if they were the pilot for an aircraft I was getting on, the air traffic controller for airspace I'd be flying in, or the surgeon about to perform an operation on me.

Both Dorothy and I have permits. They help when trying to park. Trouble is the folk without them that park in the spots anyway. Last night I went to our local corner store and there was a tow truck parked in the middle of two handicapped spots. I challenged him about it and he said his truck was worth more than all the other vehicles in the lot put together! I suppose that qualifies him to break the law! :(

You have a pot permit or handicap permit? Either could help get through the day :D Just joking mate.
