Too many relatives can ruin a meal. Booze helps you in tolerating the relatives. At the same time, too much booze can make them start fighting. There's a delicate balance that has to be found.

Challenges of living in the Philippines, update.
One PITA of living here is the up to 50% import duty added to items bought outside of the country and shipped here via commercial parcel services. Case in point: my sister sent a gift to my daughter of a set of Harry Potter videos from the USA. I told her to send it U.S. postal service which usually bypasses customs (don't ask me why). She insisted on using FedEx. We wound up paying over $40 on something that cost about $70.
The other option is called "balikbayan". This is a system where a person in the USA or other counties can send a box about 2'x2'x3.5' regardless of weight. The guy I used when I moved charged $55 a box. I sent 54 boxes when i moved here. It bypasses any import duty. The system exists to facilitate Filipno overseas workers sending things home for their families.
The last time I used it was a year ago to have a USA eBay purchase of a Korg digital recorder forwarded.
I was informed at that time that the powers that be had cracked down on shipping auto parts and machinery. Plus,as it goes by ship, 3 to 4 months is typical shipping time.
So the motorcycle tire adveventure continues.

Both Dorothy and I have permits. They help when trying to park. Trouble is the folk without them that park in the spots anyway. Last night I went to our local corner store and there was a tow truck parked in the middle of two handicapped spots. I challenged him about it and he said his truck was worth more than all the other vehicles in the lot put together! I suppose that qualifies him to break the law!
He's not "qualified" to victimize others. I don't "challenge" them.
I lower the value of their investment.
You should probably distance yourself from stupid people.

Brian, you might know your first shipment when you move home is mostly tax exempt (no vehicles or business quantities). The new D30 law greatly increased the balikbayan tax exempt limit. There was a lot of hoopla going on with customs that D30 wanted cleaned up (overtaxing so recipients would abandon the good and customs got to keep the goodies, outright theft, etc.). It was a great system that evidently deteriorated over the last ten years or so. They set the value of the goods themselves if you didn't include a sales receipt. He was supposed to go after all that hoopla, but also increased the tax exempt limit from I believe 10,000 PHP to 150,000 PHP Invalid Link Removed
You probably already know all this, but I just don't want to hear you got burned on P300,000 worth of goodies! I'm sure the box shippers know the rules when you bring the box in. My nearby Asian Market/shipper) in Indy has shut down
There are a couple of others there, all the way across town. Last I shipped was $80 to Luzon, outside of Manila. Less if I go up to Chicago. I might get a container. Make a great shop and/or underground bunker 
There are positive offsets as well. As far as cheap tires go (not that you want to risk it on a bike), there's a vulcanizing shop every 100 ft on any highway, and time stands still, no one is expected to be on time.

Sure, I'm pretty familiar with Island Time. My favorite related acronym is for LIAT Airlines, who I nearly had to use to go visit my brother's old charter boat in the Lesser Antilles. It's very commonly understood to mean "leave island, any time."
There used to be an airline in Miami called "Air Sunshine" or, more commonly, Air Sometimes.
