I make homemade smoked garlic sausage. I gave a ring to the priest at our church once, and the following week asked him if he liked it. He told me "Oh yes, the kids were over for dinner and my wife served it along with the meal; they really enjoyed it. What kind of meat did you make it from?"I know that in northern areas where people hunt for their meat, people appreciate fresh road kill. Seems that the same goes in other regions.

In the South we call something similar, Pot Liquor. As a kid I to my mum to save the water from cooking cabbage. I then would drink it. Nowadays i use the stuff as a base for my soup concoctions.![]()
Looks like something out of a James Cameron movie but bet it's delish.
Was prepping in Longview for couple months for a prog country casino act,
and staying at the drummers' Dads house. He was a heart patient on some
sort of cabbage diet we had to eat EVERY NIGHT. Thought I was going-to-die.
Oddly enough I don't hate cabbage to this day but think of those nights every time
my wife serves some cabbage- based plate.
Today I say a prayer for the victims and families of 9/11.
I also say a prayer of thanks and blessings to the heroes who stepped forward that fateful day.

Those cabbage rolls are rice, finely chopped bacon and or ham, sweet onions, hot sauce, a touch of minced garlic, salt and pepper. Wrapped in single cabbage leaf and baked for hourstill the cabbage softens and goes translucent. Some people serve them with a tomato sauce or catchup.
Very tasty.

Sadly, this is the first reference to 9-11 I've seen today.

That's cool. I had a very busy work day and fell behind on the GOF thread. I generally don't watch TV anymore.Actually, ALB and BassMike reminded me above. Also, the NBC Evening News with Lester Holt ( a bass player) had a bit about the 911 medic who is now a florist and provides yellow roses for each victim's birthday to be placed in their name at the memorial, like the flags in ALB's post above, by one of the widows every single day of the year!
That photo reminds me of the state owned veterans home my wife worked at. I used to drive her to work there and go in to pick er her up. I parked and waited for her call for me to pull up to her door. Sometimes I would wonder out into the thousands of tombstones, read them, wonder what they went through and touch the top of the stone. Very somber experience. The dates on the older stones indicated most died in action. Cut backs had such a negative affect on her ability to care for surviving veterans that she couldn't handle it and left. It was also hard on her to see them go, and it was run by a Nazi.
Because we make them with sour leaves we don't use tomato soup; we put about 100 lbs of leaves in the crock to sour up about 2 weeks ago, they are just about ready. The traditional filing is mostly rice with a little bit of chopped up bacon mixed in. Edit: Oh, and lest we forget the sauteed onion, another all important ingredient in the filling. Those cabbage rolls are rice, finely chopped bacon and or ham, sweet onions, hot sauce, a touch of minced garlic, salt and pepper.
