There doesn't appear to be a shortage of moose here either, 830,000 in Canada according to Environment Canada. Around 118,000 in Alberta alone; no wonder they are walking through my yard.

I've never seen a live moose. But, one October, on a driving tour of Colorado, Mrs. Dog and I came upon one of these reclining near the Estes Park Campground office. I thought I saw a chain around his neck and I asked inside the office if he belonged to them. They calmly mumbled, "No, that's a wild animal. I wouldn't get too close." I stealthily returned to our car and started the engine, and I couldn't believe his height when he stood up!!! Then a family van full of kids drove up! I spoke to them, "Danger! Wild animal!", as we drove off. I hope it helped.

The North American Moose population is very definitely on the decline. Interesting to hear it's more stable in Europe. My first thought reading Shadven's reply was what does a guy in Florida know about taking moose? It reminded me of Canadian Rick Mercer's running comedy bit "Talking To Americans" where he's asking horrified Americans their thoughts on reinstating the annual Toronto polar bear slaughter to harvest polar bears by clubbing them to death. Clubbing polar bears to death in Toronto.....

I'm not into hunting.Never have been, no necessity. BUT, I would never tell someone, esp. in another country that has an overpopulation of wildlife what to do. Unfortunately, a few dumbasses have given hunters a bad name. I do my hunting at Publix(a southeastern supermarket chain). I always bag my limit.<EDIT> actually, the bagboy bags my limit

That doesn't surprise me. I've worked in the bush in BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec and Alberta is the only place I've seen moose in real life. They must like all them wild roses.....

Usually Corps of Engineers will come in and properly grade the surface
and lay down Marston Mats or PSP to smooth out any unnecessary bumps and foliage to ensure a smooth entry.
