As far as day-to-day tasks, military members cannot consume cannabis up to eight hours before performing any duty, up to 24 hours before handling a loaded weapon or driving a vehicle, and up to 28 days before joining the crew of an aircraft or submarine.
This is filled with mixed messages IMO. The 24 hours (handling a loaded weapon, and it's not clear whether we mean sidearm, long gun or mounted automatic weapon) vs 28 days (to serve as aircrew or ship's company) tells me no one has quite figured out what they are trying to regulate and/or why. I come from the Naval aviation and airborne weapons world and this wouldn't pass muster in the US on multiple levels.

When you look at the list for the 28 day prohibition or even the 24 list, it makes the 8 hour requirement a total, unsubstantiated risk IMO. While I personally do not drink or do drugs of any type (it just works better in my profession), I'm not sure I consider light recreational cannabis use and occasional alcohol consumption to be all that different. Admittedly though I have absolutely no medical credentials or training to back that position up. In either case, I'd want a clean blood test from any pilot, aircrew member, ground personnel, or air traffic controllers associated with my work.

I totally agree with you. There should be zero tolerance.

They wanted to legalize it without taking the time to think it through. Since it’s legal, they had to come up with regulations for the military. Civilian police forces were against it. They didn’t have a good way to test drivers to see if they were under the influence. What about a doctor performing surgery. People working in industry.

Consumption isn’t just smoking. What about dope based muffins that can stay in your system for a couple of days. This seems to get around all these silly hour based rules. They have to exhibit signs of a problem and then those in charge have to order tests. The system can easily fall apart.

There’s a long list of long term health effects including cannabis and psychosis. Do you really want a soldier out in the field with psychosis and carrying a rifle.

It just seems to be an ill conceived mess.

Kind of scary.

Because they legalized dope in Canada, they had to come up with a policy. I doubt that all regulations will be enforced to the letter. How can they, which goes back to why allow it. For instance, on’t consume eight hours before handling a weapon. What if they didn’t smoke but were in a room full of smoke. They are a lot of gray areas.

Members of the Armed Forces will not be allowed to consume cannabis during a shift or domestic exercise. They will not be allowed to bring cannabis on any aircraft or vessel and are not permitted to bring cannabis with them internationally.

Wow, these people must know of more dangers than those who legalized it. I'm not for legalizing pot but wonder if these same rules should apply to alcohol...just thinking :eyebrow:.

I hope it's one of those "disposable" products. I, for one, would not want to deal with it if it breaks :poop::rollno:.

Very not happy to entertain the timeline where SPINX the self-cleaning toilet robot becomes sentient. Except it might make for a great metal ... uum ... something. Let's not go there and say we did.

I Love playing with the 3 banjo players I know!

All are good-to-really-Really-good.

Be forewarned!
The Grateful Dead is a gateway to banjo music!!

Of course, since it was Jerry Garcia's principal instrument way back when. Personally, I'll take pretty much any acoustic instrument over electric guitar in most cases these days. Yep, I just said that. And I used to gig on electric guitar quite a bit.

If you want to hear a great banjo player check out my buddy Tony Furtado. Not quite as famous as Bela Fleck, but he often has truly world class players in his touring bands and you can still see him in less than huge clubs. He was always one of my real favorite acts to mix in the clubs here.

Speaking of Canada, I have personal experience with a condo facility that wanted to adopt a by-law that would prohibit the use of pot within the condos, patios and common areas. It went before their annual Strata Council meeting and was voted down. Apparently the majority of voters were either pot smokers or concerned that their resale value would be compromised !

With all the societal problems that alcohol and tobacco brings, is it good to legalize another recreational drug. I don’t think so.

It’s all about a lot of people making lots of money.

They idea of exposing people to it in public places such as the condo that you mentioned is wrong. Many people are alergic to the smell. You can’t confine it to a living unit, the smell will leak into public spaces. As for public spaces such as a patioor pool, I don’t think it should be allowed.

I totally agree...too bad the powers that be have decided they can't fight the pot problem and have concluded the best thing to do is to legalize it (and tax it, of course). :rollno:
