Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Hmmmm. I've gotten full screen images from my older standard definition DVD's and enjoying everything looking more high-definition I wonder if you have a setting in your setup to allow you to fill out your screen?

That’s just the way it is on my set.

The TV is old as far as this type of technology goes, 2006 and a new model was released a couple of months after I bought it. I hate it when that happens. At one time you could buy an oxford shoe, twenty years later you could still buy that same shoe.

They do format coversion better these days. Some of it has to do with the format. For example in the case of a DVD, they have to keep the original aspect ratio correct, be it letterbox or something else, otherwise the video would be cropped or unnaturally stretched. HDTV transmissions are full screen, non-HDTV channels have a black box around them on my set. No way around it without the image suffering. The advantage of non-HDTV channels is that they take up less space on the provider’s box disk if I to store an old movie.

For those who think young people today have no social conscience:

My parrot rescue has been hosting this week a group of six students from Indiana State University. They're part of a program in which kids use their spring break to travel to non-profits all over the US to WORK. Every day they've worked hard helping with cleaning, feeding, landscaping...and they pay their own travel, food, and lodging.

Excellent stuff!

Promoting a good work ethic is important. You’re providing an experience that well stay with them throught their lives.

Is there any danger of the birds being exposed to human viruses?

Is there any danger of the birds being exposed to human viruses? Does parrot poop contain anything of concern?

There are almost no diseases birds can catch from people. Droppings can carry some stuff, rarely. We run six big HEPA filters, and provide safety gear. Biggest concern is dander, which can be life threatening for people with compromised respiratory systems. Of course, bites are the main danger. Macaws can exert 2400 psi with their beaks. We try real hard to guard against that.

Sounds like they can hurt one another if fighting over food or females.
