Happy Soulful Sunday...
Happy Soulful Sunday...
You can just 'see' the smoky dance hall with the floor crowded with couples holding and swaying. Great choice, SR.
That's a beautiful sight, but it would take some serious convincing to get me comfortable living there every day. As soon as I hear the word volcano, words like dormant just don't bring me a lot of comfort. Although there is no landscape in the DC area that compares to Sitka....not even close...so I understand the trade off.
One year a guy helicoptered 50 old tires over to Mt. Edgecumbe and soaked them in gasoline. He lit them up and for April Fool's Day everyone panicked because they thought the volcano was beginning to open up! He got everyone laughing but still got a $50 ticket...That's a beautiful sight, but it would take some serious convincing to get me comfortable living there every day. Of course from a geological stability standpoint (i.e. the earth trying to kill me) I lived through the earthquake in the Washington DC area a few years back. Up to that point in time I always felt safe/immune from those events because I didn't live in California or Alaska.
Mt. Edgecumbe High is for gifted Alaska Native students. They are the smartest, kindest, respectful kids I've ever met. And competitive, healthy, happy, and polite. I can't say enough about how good the kids are...Like a bear, when it wakes up it can be very grumpy.
The Mt. Edgecumbe high school looks like they get to enjoy some nice activities on the mountain: Invalid Link Removed

(said the guy who lives a bazillion miles away from an active volcano)![]()
I wouldn't worry. The last eruption of Mt. Edgecumbe was in 2220 BC ±100 years, the others were around 3810 BC, and 7620 BC.
The mountain performs like a GOF.![]()
Snow on the roof, but fire in the furnace?
