Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

My own studies on coffee are still in progress. Seems I get to a certain point in my cup and have to start over. Look for the verification by semaphore of a completed study Any Day Now.
I drink tons of coffee. Several years ago I had one of those kit DNA tests done that gives you information about your genetic traits. According to that test, I am a fast caffeine metabolizer which, I suppose, means that the caffeine doesn't stay in my system for very long. This explains how I can drink an entire pot of coffee and barely feel the caffeine. A good thing to know, I guess.

My daddy, after many years of shift work, would get up in the middle of the night, fix & drink a cup of coffee and go back to bed. Like it was a sleeping pill! He also liked to listen to country, bluegrass and gospel, which I hated as a rebellious teenager.

I didn't do much shift work but, my coffee intake rollercoasted over my career. It peaked when my office was right across the hall from the kitchenette with the coffee club pots. Was glad when a reorganization put me on the other side of the building!

Now in retirement, one cup a day is plenty, and have been known to take a nap right after. And I look forward to my bluegrass/gospel jams! Yep, I'm turning into my daddy. And that's . . . OK.

I'm not quite that bad, I will drink decaf if it's around and if it's after 4pm or so. But it's not unusual for me to wake up in the morning, drink several cups and, if I don't have any work to do that morning, go right back to sleep.

JOLT Cola:thumbsup:

Ok, reporting in, albeit tardy...do I need a note from my mom? I seem to be reasonably functional. Working on my second mug of coffee (organic fair-traded rainforest-certified).

Plan for the day includes supervising my weekend volunteer crew, approving adoption on a Congo grey, rejecting adoption on a macaw, and mentoring a young man who wants to open his own shelter. I suspect there'll be a nap in there somewhere as well.'

Music? We keep an acoustic guitar in the shelter. The macaws like the blues, cockatoos are headbangers, and the amazons dig salsa...so, I'll probably give them some Clancy Brothers or Alias Acoustic Band.

What are your criteria for yay-or-naying adoption? I'm curious, as my wife has both taken in birds from folks who could not take care of them properly and has adopted birds as well. She has also taken 'problem' birds to shelters such as yours, tho' this has not occurred since we've had houses large enough for tons o' cages.

As an aside, a couple of records by Horace Parlan and Archie Shepp, 'Goin' Home' and 'Trouble In Mind', evoke pretty emotional responses from our birds on occasion.

It's funny. At work I can drink 3-4 cups through the day. But on weekends I drink 1-2 at most. At work I think I use my nervous energy to push me through projects. At home I avoid projects! I'm kidding. I've been pretty productive on home projects this summer due to the great weather..
Yeah, when I was driving 18 wheelers, a coupla mugs* a night was normal. Now, maybe 1 cup 3 days/week.

"All the sugar, twice the caffeine", indeed. And I suspect it's not just for breakfast anymore.

Mainly ability to care properly for the bird, chemistry with the desired bird...non-smoking, available time for socialization. Access to proper vet. We do a background check, home inspection, etc.

A pirate wouldn't have a chance today.

I put together a cup of half-calf pretty much every morning. Half a cup from my wife's brew and half a cup of instant decafe (with boiling water from my electric kettle) along with cacao and a dollop of heavy cream. Mmmm...

Tried out for a forming band today...I haven’t played with anyone for about 4-5 years.
Unorganized, one no show, one very late. The host was very rusty, not knowing the songs they already do. Drummer was very loose and such. The late showing guitarist was VERY loud during the solos only...but he was good.
The host called me later and I passed up the opportunity. He asked me why because I hadn’t heard the vocalist. I still passed.
I’m not sure if I want to play out anymore. Maybe I just need to keep looking.
It’s nice to have the upper hand though.
Thanks for listening.
Edit...they ran a full PA with mic’ed drums, bass direct, etc. overkill for a basement.

Keep looking...it's much better to stick to what you want rather than the frustration of going down someone else's path IMHO.

Keep trying, Stereo! Yes, it's very disheartening to run into such a trainwreck as you've described. But when you find a decent group of actual musicians it's more fun than just about anything. And, who knows, you might run into some of those same guys in another situation, like the good, but loud, guitarist, for instance, and really enjoy playing with them then.

Just curious, what'd you tell him when he asked why you passed? "I'm not sure if I want to play out anymore." sounds kinda like "It's not you, it's me." But, it hems you in if they see you playing out with someone else. Then it looks like, "Nope, it was you after all."

Edit...the drummer doesn’t have a drivers license...DUI...needed a ride after....nope.
Sounds like some of the bands around here. It's incredibly frustrating sometimes but I keep going, even though there are days I'd rather not. I keep figuring the more I network the more likely I'll find the diamonds that are out there and then I will just keep them close. Unfortunately, right now most of them are drummers. I only need one of those at a time.
