Fluent would be overly generous, but I know a guy:

Which led to making a fairly large poster for a dog and pony show that said guy presented at. Which in turn lead to a bonus that "unexpectedly" paid out the same week my then new bass arrived, and somehow covered the balance due amount perfectly. The majority of the people I worked with were degreed biologists. I essentially knew nothing, beyond who to ask. Sometimes that's enough.

For awhile I was an instrument scientist working with the USGS. We did primarily geochronology. My boss, though, noted that 'hard rock' geology was not necessarily fitting in with the direction the Survey was headed in around the turn of the century, so went out to find new customers. We ended up doing a bunch of otolith work, spatially resolving the chemical composition of the 'earbones' in hopes of fingerprinting these salmons' lives, the better to get a feel for various populations' migration, breeding grounds, etc. Biologists are different from volcanologists I learned. Or at least their vocabularies are.

Did you make the ultrasound source, pulser, and antenna that made the l'i'l fishies flinch?

And I think knowing of whom to ask questions will get you 50% there, to pull an arbitrary number out of the air.

It's a happy doggy day when the farrier is in the stable.

It is a high altitude mountaineer - it may have been Chris Bonnington but I've forgotten exactly - at a party back home. Several of his toes are frostbitten and awaiting amputation. A nurse at the party asks to see. "I'm a nurse" blah blah blah and he says sure. She grasps the necrotic toe and it comes clean away in her fingers. Shocked, she drops the toe and faints dead away when the family pet dog gobbles it up.

There's SOS on Wednesdays for breakfast.

Told there are Hawaiian sushi bars that offer spam. Oh and it's been quite a long time since I've had a proper sushi dinner. There was this place in Princeton .... The sushi chef was very old school. It was poor form to request any of the "new fangled" offerings now common in <ahem> grocery stores. I found it best to say: you decide. Eating what, and how, and in what order is a thing. Once simply does enjoy a dinner like that by brashly ordering salmon skin roll for opener. That guy raised my sushi IQ and this is after a proper sushi education in Studio City and Toluca Lake.

And for all that is good in these universes, please don't dredge your salmon in soy sauce! Thank you. Yes, the sake is excellent, have another.

Armagnac? B&B with coffee and whipped cream for dessert?
I love SOS! proof that I'm strange.

Early report: No gigs for our regular group this weekend, off to visit family in Orlando area. Back in time for Sunday afternoon outdoor open mic/jam, noon 'til T-storms.

Wave 'hi' to my many sisters-in-law in Stuart as you drive by (if that's your route). And drive safely, please.

I consider "Spork" deceptive and "pork offal" repellent.

Well there's a new punk band name if there ever was. Pork Offal. Hate them on sight. Nothing like a big old night of hate down at the old sheet metal plant, I always say.

Enjoy your visit. Just nod and agree with everyone. Never lay the first blow.

And never point your bass at anyone.

Because driving like a maniac is utterly normal in most places. So seen: watching traffic in Milan is some of the finest free entertainment EVAH. However, watching Hollywood Boulevard on any Saturday night is all that, plus an extra dash of weirdness. Mind the gap!

Recorded at Abbey Road in 1960, Johnny Kidd & Pirates were way ahead of their time.

This springs to mind immediately
(well after recollection of those globby two dimensional jacks figures that seemed to grace every VW Kombi. )
