Getting the right Ric tone for prog metal?

Ha I hate to create a "for metal" thread but I feel this is a legit question.

I recently joined a prog metal band and have been having a problem finding my tone.

We tune to D standard, my amp is an Orange Terror Bass. Ric is a 20010 4003.

Of my basses, the Ric seemed to take the tuning the best without a setup, and I brought my Jazz to the first rehearsal and it was quickly shot down by the band leader for having the wrong sound.

So I decided I want to use the Ric, plus I think it's a great visual bass for the music we are playing.

But I'm having problems trying to EQ/balance it properly. On the amp I've been boosting mids and treble, keeping the bass flat. I tend to dime the bridge pickup and keep the neck at about half, all tones full on.

Previous bassist used a G +L.

bass 3 o clock. treble at 3 as well. Mids at 12. Compress it. don't use the vintage selector on your ric. use both pickups. crank the volume up. put a little fuzz (not much) on. Might not be exactly what the last guy had, but I'd say it's a pretty good metal tone. PM me with insults if I'm wrong (which I may be ).

Good luck man. Never much of a metal fan, but gotta admit it's got some killer musicians.

It's hard to get a good slice of the EQ when the guitars are also down there.

I would try lots and lots of lows, and boost the tweeter/highs a bit to get a little bite. I know, it's the dreaded smiley face eq, but it's either that or not be heard at all.

PS the band is great. Great playing.

I dug everything but the vocals. And honestly I couldnt help you, thats tough with how the guitars are playing.
