GHS Balanced Nickel strings

How long have you been playing on that set of strings here?

At that point, that set was only on the bass for a week, and I had a 4hr cover band gig (90s alternative & grunge, 80/20 fingers to pick).

@Jon Moody Excellent video, and they sound great!!

Thank you, sir!

Great video, Jon! They really sound balanced across and up and down the neck!

I'm glad that translated across from the video! That was a big concern.

Hoping for the 4L sets to become available soon. Did I read that pure nickel raises the tension a bit compared to NPS?

I would tell your local string supplier that you want to buy them, and have them order them now, instead of waiting and hoping. Even when they ARE available, I can't make anyone carry them.

Hard to say. Because there isn't anything else like this in our line (as in, the construction is different), you can't just look at the numbers in the Bass String Tension Guide and figure it out.

Here is the comparison in terms of total tension:

Pressurewound M7200 = 187.1 lbs.
Boomer M3045 = 186.5
Balanced Nickel 4M-NB = 184.2

Boomer Custom 45-60-80-105 = 174.2
RC Boomer RC-M3045 = 173.4
Balanced Nickel 4L-NB = 172.3
Pressurewound ML7200 = 169.3

Again, you can't just go by this because it's not a true apples/apples comparison. If there was a set of Round Core Bass Boomers that was constructed the same way as Balanced Nickels (in terms of covers used and gauges in the set), THEN you'd have a comparison. Right now, this doesn't tell the whole picture at all.

I do completely understand the tension numbers are only a small part of the whole equation. I don't mean this to me a "true apples/apples comparison" as such. Rather, just an observation as to how these new BNs would compare with the others in terms of numbers. I mostly do this to satisfy my own OCD. ;):D

I will be sure to report back when I do have a chance to try the 4L set as to how they sound and feel in real life.

I messaged juststrings.com about these and they said they should be carrying them eventually as they distribute every other type of GHS string. Hopefully sooner than later since the warehouse is near me for pickup but I might have some shipped from GHS if it takes too long. I'd like a set for my Precision and another short scale set for my EB-0.

A quick question for @Jon Moody ...

Is the 4L-NB set supposed to be available for order by the dealers? I was in touch with the main contact at my preferred online dealer last week and he was telling me he'd been trying to order them in but couldn't see any listing for it at GHS yet.
