GHS Balanced Nickel strings

They’re completely different. You’re comparing a roundwound pure nickel string to a rollerwound phosphor bronze. They only share the same “balanced construction” concept. Otherwise, very different.

The PB are definitely a more mid-forward sound where the BN are, I feel, dark but focused across the board. I initially designed the BN so I could get “my” sound while playing my solo bass gigs and still take that same bass to a cover band gig the next night.
Thanks, Jon. What do you think would suit a bass with Bartolini soap bars more?

It truly is going to depend on a lot more factors than just the pickups alone. I’d look at what the sound the bass currently is, what you like and what you don’t, and go from there.

The Pressurewound Bronze were originally designed as an acoustic/electric bass string, but they just happen to work really well with magnetic pickups also. So, I don’t know if that helps or not.

Ok. The comments here have convinced me to give them a try. Ordered two sets. Now to decide what to try them on first. Such a first world problem right? ;)

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how they compare tension-wise with a set of GHS Pressurewounds?

Comparing the PW ML7200 (44-58-80-102) and the BN 4L-NB (40-56-76-101), the BNs do feel slightly more supple due to the round core, although they're firmer than one might expect from a round core; they're not loose and floppy like some round core strings from other manufacturers tend to be.

One interesting thing is the BNs have more tension (ie pulling weight) than the PWs despite the smaller gauges.

Balanced Nickel 4L-NB (40-56-76-101) = 172.3 lbs.
Pressurewound ML7200 (44-58-80-102) = 169.3 lbs.

Thx. Not that big a difference it seems.

You'll have to order elsewhere, such as Just Strings or Strings By Mail. There is no reason for such a delay. The best source is direct from GHS.

In all fairness, we got a couple sizeable orders of just the Balanced Nickels that completely destroyed any stock we had.

So I wonder how that works? Does that entire 500-unit order get filled before anybody else can get any at all? On one hand, that seems only fair, but on the other hand, it seems that with that large of an order, it might make sense to alternate between making more to fulfill that order, and also fulfilling other smaller orders.

[I have no order pending, and am not complaining; just pondering how such things work...]
