GHS Balanced Nickel strings

But, it bears mentioning that, had I tried it on something as iconic as Bass Boomers (our nickel-plated offering), the chances are great that it wouldn't have caught on nearly as quickly, nor be as appreciated. It needed to be a new set to provide a better platform for people to look at it on its merit, instead of "Why'd you change ______? It was great the way it is!"

I totally get your point about this new product having to be something unique and different from all the rest for it to arouse enough curiosity and interest.

Three things that jumped out at me when I first learned about these BNs - "Balanced", "Round Core" AND "PURE NICKEL".
I've always been curious about pure nickel (vs. nickel-plated steel) but never had a chance to try it till now.

You call it "pure selfishness"; I call it "pure joy".

@michael_t will want the tension numbers.

That's a given that the tension numbers will be updated.

Will this newly reengineered roundcore Bass Boomers be billed as 'balanced tension'?

Maybe? More than likely, they will remain as Roundcore Bass Boomers.

I hope they retain that same smooth glassy top end. I look forward to trying a set on my American Standard Fender Jazz, as I thought the original version of roundcore Boomers to be close to perfection.

I find the top end more in-line with the rest of the set now, while still smooth and glassy. I had the same couple of folk that originally prototyped the first round of RC Bass Boomers help with this (as many of them had switched over to RC after they were released) and got everyone's blessing for the edits.

I'm looking forward to the edits and the opportunity to experience the difference but have a few sets to get through...

I wonder if these types of numbers are really brand specific though, as in GHS specific. I'm sure Rotosound probably sells more of the iconic RS66 sets in stainless than anything nickel they offer. Same with DR strings, I would think the Hi Beams and Fatbeams outsell most of their nickel offereings. It's a shame as GHS Super Steel rounds are really a great string IMHO, nice midrange voicing compared to other brands of stainless rounds.

It's brand specific to a point. Nickel strings do outsell stainless as an overall blanket statement, but my ratio of 10:1 is definitely GHS-based. I wouldn't be surprised if other companies have it closer to 3:1 or, the RS66 may outsell their nickel strings as they're KNOWN for those over anything else (and it's also what you can pick up at GC).

GHS Super Steels are great strings. I like Contact Core Super Steels too.

GK Growl, I've read quite a few other comnents about Super Steels' midrange voicing. I definitely intend to try a set out. The two GHS offerings that I use, Bass Boomers and Pressurewounds, are voiced with a low mids bump, which I'm very fond of.

I've played two shows now with the Balanced Nickels and I have to say these are my new favorite strings. For the last few years I've been playing DR Nickel Lo-Riders but not anymore. The BNs have authority in the mids, balance and serious fundamental for a round wound plus some zing in the highs. I play a Valenti PJ with swamp ash body, pau ferro board and a Sadwosky pre and the bass is super growly in the high mids and these strings are a perfect match.
