Package arrived today! I want to play on them some more before trying to author a hound-releasing review, but so far I am impressed. While I was not under normal circumstances "needing" a new set of strings just yet, I was excited to try these, and sacrificed a broken-in but not worn-out set of Fender 7250Ms. The fresh, out-of-the-package sound of the Balanced Nickels is in the same ballpark, but, just as the product copy suggests, more "focused".
Being round core, I expected something more flexible, but they are a little stiffer than the 7250s. But, like with GHS Progressives, I think stiff in a good way. Fast response. They give your fingers something to sink their teeth into, like eating a good fresh whole wheat bread vs. cheap processed white bread.
As far as I know, this is the first set of strings that I have used that was touted as being "balanced". I like it. The strings do feel and sound very even and consistent, from one to the next.
The green silks are lovely. I presently have a set of Rotosound 55 on another bass; the GHS BNs are a little brighter, with the Rotosound 55 being, I would say more of a "forest green".
Very quick bottom line: if you like broken-in Fender 7250 strings, you may well love these. Fender should consider making these their new stock strings.
More details and sound clips to come, after I get some more time with these. Happy bass playing!
[EDIT: Oh, I'm playing these on a stock 1962 AVRI Fender Precision bass.]
