Short answer: you're over-reacting. That said, changing strings and trying other brands is totally cool! I do it pretty regularly.

Long answer: PW's aren't one of our top selling sets, this is true. However, since we changed the winding length they've been selling pretty well, mainly because a larger group of folk can now use them on 35" scale basses. There are other sets I'd discontinue over these.

That's excellent news, Jon!!!

I've encouraged all of my FB friends who play bass to try a set of PW's. Hopefully more folks will get turned on to them. I've said it too many times, but they're incredible strings, and I'm confident if more players were to try a set, they'll love them as much as I do.

How are the mids with the DR Sunbeams? And are they a higher tension string? I really like big midrange, and higher tension. I've meant to try a set of DR Nickel Lo-Riders out, so those will be added back to my list.

I'm not actually the best person to ask about things like "mids", I don't seem to hear in frequency ranges like a lot of people and I've been playing a lot more doublebass than bass guitar for the last few decades. The Sunbeams strike me as lower tension and more flexible than the PW's, though, so probably not for you. Lo-Riders, by reputation would be better.

But, honestly, I think the GHS PressureWounds are a great string that it seems like, along with a few others, everyone should have some experience with at some point. If they're calling you, go for it! I'd send you my set, but I'm kind of attached to them.

@Jon Moody - How long have PressureWounds been on the market? I'm under the impression that they've been around for quite a while, but I could be wrong. I recall someone suggesting BriteFlats to me back in the early 90s, so I could be mixing the two up.

Honestly, I have no clue but it's been a while. If the old packaging was any indication, probably from the 80s.

Brite Flats have been around since the 70s (again, dating it by just looking at the packaging).

I wholeheartedly agree! I stumbled upon Pressurewounds almost a year ago, (thanks, Linnin!!) and for me, they're the best strings that I've played, bar none.

I wish I would've tried them decades ago, but I honestly never knew about them. My first set has been on my bass since last Christmas, and they still sound great.

Put new PW about 3 hours ago on my surf caster the first bass that got PW's 18 years ago , took of old strings about 6 weeks ago and left it in case with no strings.
So tonight I put a fresh set on after fret and board clean.
Intonation was easy and no truss rod adjustment required.
Plugged in to a VOX keyboard amp '15 and, welcome back...an old forgotten beloved friend.
We spoke only for a few minutes before my wife said to SHUT UP...she was trying to sleep.
We,ll continue our conversation where we left of tomorrow.

@Jon Moody The new set I recently installed didn't have enough silk wrap on the G

strings are on a Charvel Surfcaster 34" scale, Purchased 2 x packs of strings old/new stock this year from a store (closing down?) in USA.
The photos attached demonstrate the issue.

the E string with extra wind but demonstrates issue. Sounds Okay at the moment, only been less than a week. On further inspection bare string is almost a complete turn around post. It seems G silk is shorter.Thanks for your response. Jon, Always been a fan of PW.

Alright, that helps a lot. It's a 2x2 headstock, which explains the G string. Neither the E nor the G should be any concern, and they don't look any longer than the other strings in that set. With a 37.25" winding length, the E string on a standard Fender has "maybe" a quarter turn of the full diameter around the tuner before the silk starts. But then again, I can put that set on three different Fenders of the same type and get three different measurements of where it sits.

So, from here this doesn't look like an issue with the silk length.

As to how old/new stock that is, while it IS in the old packaging I'm guessing it's with the new 37.25" winding as that change was made well in advance of the packaging change. Otherwise, the strings would've been around 36.5" winding length with black silk also at the ball end.

Thanks for quick reply. but lack of silk length is towards the nut. Also, there is black silk at the ball end, wondering if the packets I purchased are of different lengths ie. 37.25 and 36.5 put together buy seller from leftovers from selling strings from packets individually. Never not had this problem before.
