Gibson Acquires Mesa/Boogie

Hmmm

Probably a sign of the times; COVID and all.

Gibson has acquired a retinue of important bass brands (and I recognize Mesa is not JUST a bass company at all); and honestly the track record has been pretty much total failure looking back over the composite. I can’t think of a single bass related concern that Gibson acquired which has benefited; and most are actually historical footnotes now.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Bigger more established distribution worldwide.

I hope it isn't perceived as a bad thing when after some time Mesa products become more widely available and common on sales floors. The ONE store around here that stocks their products usually only has a select few examples to play.

I'm not seeing this acquisition as a negative; regardless of past Gibson foibles.

My Mesa gear will be fine although I assume IF I ever need warranty support just toss it in a lake. Good for the Mesa crew. Next generation gonna be pure junk, you know Gibson can’t keep hands off the quality. Too bad for bassists.
I can't believe Gibson will do this to Mesa. Mesa is an institution, you can't ruin them without paying the price a way or another.

You left @agedhorse out! Shame on you! He's our advocate for the non-skinny string crowd.

Id bet he doesnt really have much to add to the conversation as of yet, and is likely bound to radio silence for the time being. It's a tough spot to be in, I'm sure. Let's hope for his sake, and ours, this isn't deja vu.

I am curious as to if this affects his ability to maintain such amazing service for GB products... My logic being that it is technically a major competitor's property and supply chain?

Nothing good happens when great independent companies are swallowed up. SWR, Eden, Genz Benz, all disappeared. I think some Genz Benz tech maybe made it into the new Rumble amps. Genzler has resurfaced under that name and is making great stuff. That doesn't seem to be the norm though. Maybe I'm wrong.

Ampeg is still Ampeg under Yamaha I believe. We'll see what happens to Aguilar and Mesa/Boogie I guess.

It will not affect my service program for Genz Benz, I have had the continued support of Fender, KMC and Mesa Boogie to continue this program for as long as I am willing to do it. I can't see any company objecting to doing something that is good for both the players and the industry as a whole, as all of these companies really are customer service oriented at their core.
