GIBSON Club. Part II

Ok, I can't stand it anymore, GAS is building up - I need a used mint condition 5 string fireburst Gibson EB14 bass! Now if I could only find one of the darn things! PM me if anyone has any leads on one.

Well, I didn't get any leads on a 2014 Fireburst EB 5 string and the GAS was building up quick so I got a nice blonde SG Supreme to go with my Lava Burst instead...

After doing some much needed set up work on it, she plays real fine. The EB is gonna have to wait for a later date, I'm having fun with the short scale SGs right now.

As does yours! These SG basses are such good instruments! What's the verdict on your new neck pickup? Was it a big departure from the stock one? Inquiring minds want to know.
I think you may have meant to ask me that question, my friend (unless gsgbass is planning the same swap out). I'm still waiting on the work to be completed. The pup needs a slightly wider route than the stock pup. I talked to the luthier yesterday, and he said that it's going to be about another week to get everything routed and swapped in. As long as the work is done right, I'm ok with the wait, but I am missing my little SG! I bought a used Lakland Skyline DJ4 to get me thru the wait, though! The shop I'm using has a good reputation, great service, and it's where I bought the bass last month, so I'm not worried, and mine isn't the only instrument being worked on. The total for the routing and install is going to be $80, not bad, especially considering I wouldn't be able to do it myself!

EDIT: Those Lavaburst pics never get old, btw, and your new Supreme Maple is beautiful, even with the minor issues you described.

Oops, my bad! Be sure to keep us posted on the pickup front. Also, you swapped the bridge out, does the new one fit the stock Gibson SG stud inserts?

Absolutely! Yes, the Supertone bridge uses the two existing parallel studs, with new bolts. The single bridge-angle stud closest the neck is unused, but the new bridge covers it neatly. The whole unit moves the bridge a tiny bit closer to the strap pin, which then allows the strings to be intonated properly without having to trim the silk off the E or A strings. It also gives full contact with the body, which should help prevent the studs from ever pulling out of the body. It also works with the Epiphone 3-point bridge, which have non-flush bolt studs.

My Supertone was shipped with the wrong style bolts, but a quick email to Hipshot had the correct parts shipped to me a couple of days later. Some people may not like the Supertone, but I love it, but it works for me, and it looks great (much like the Babicz bridge). If you're thinking about it, I'd say give it a shot. FWIW, I also don't mind the stock 3-point bridge, but it does have some limits that the replacements address.

I'm just sitting this one out with my pups as is. With the exception of the 2014 SG Spl. of mine, has just received the best setup of any Three Point Bridge I've ever had on an EB0, SG Std., or SG Spl. A local Sam Ash Guitar Dept. Manager did the setup for me. Amazing! It's close to the 2015 SG Std. Babicz Bridge setup I like on that one, but a bit lower that works better on the older Three Point Bridge. I'm waiting to see the completed SG of Tbone's. SG style Basses are pretty amazing.

Not sure if you saw my PM yet, George - but they make a beautiful couple! Congrats on acquiring it and enjoy mucho happy playing!

FWIW - as these things are bound to happen, I'm now shifting into hot pursuit mode for a Fireburst Supreme to hang out with my Maple-top sweetheart. When ya really just gotta have it, I think the best course of action to take is... go out there and GET IT!!
