I've always been drawn to fancy woods and finishes so these SG Supreme basses really deliver on that front plus the thick maple cap gives these just a bit more edge, punch and bite when you dig in. I'm sure you're enjoying your blonde as much as I am mine, be sure to post a pick soon so we can all drool at its beauty! And if you get that Lava burst supreme (or flame burst as some call it) we'll have both the East Coast and West Coast locked down on sexy SGs.

I'd be honored to gain membership in this club. Plus, since I have the Chocolate SG Special and the "Blonde" Supreme - if/when I obtain the Lava burst (Redhead?) - I'll be able to post a "Family" photo... but the colors may dictate the term

I'm looking for a bit of help on this one. I bought this about eight or nine years ago at a used music store in Ottawa, Ontario. The sign simply said "1970's Gibson". I love it, it plays beautifully, despite being dangerously close to needing a total refret. Unplugged, it resonates like no other bass I've ever played. What type of wood is this?
I always assumed it was a mid 1970's EB-0L, although I'm uncertain . It measures 34 inches from nut to saddle. The sunken bridge and jack on the bottom lead me to believe it was likely modified over the years. Not to mention the different tones of wood/ veneer. I've never come across an EB bass that looked quite like it. The stamped serial number on the headstock is illegible.
That said, I'm looking to confirm the model and modifications, perhaps year of manufacturing. I'm also curious as to what it might have looked like originally. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

If I had to guess, I'd say someone put a nice walnut veneer top on a mahogany body EB and while they were at it they routed the body for a badass bridge, new pickup and side mount jack. I'm not aware of any original Gibson with these features. Looks nice and you say it plays nice so those are the two most important things. Jump on over to the SG EB bass club and you might get more insight on build year and other features.
to my eyes, it looks like a Gibson – inspired copy. I doubt that it began its life as a Gibson. The body shape doesn't look quite right to me, although that could be a function of the way the photograph was taken. For sure, Gibson has never built EB bass bodies out of multiple kinds of wood.

The neck and body both appear to be maple or ash. I didn't know Gibson ever made an EB shaped bass out of anything except mahogany. A maple Gibson neck would have a snake head instead of open book headstock, as far as I know.

A while back I bought a Gibson RD Artist. Lovely bass, but unlike the description said, the frets were really worn down and there was some little bits of wear on the fretboard (Much like my grabber had before I sorted that out! Link Removed)

Anyway. I took it to the Gallery in Camden, Its been refretted with Stainless steel frets, the fingerboard has been lightly sanded and refinished, Hipshot Supertone bridge fitted, Dunlop Straplocks and a nice set of extra long scale elixirs.
Well here she is!
Shes been brought back to an excellent condition. The Hipshot really adds to the tone of the instrument and adjustability. The frets are PERFECT, stainless steel.
All work done courtesy of Martin and Co' at the gallery, though I dont think he likes working with stainless steel that much! (Apparantly it was the first time it was ever requested!)

I have sunk £1705 into buying and getting this instrument ready for gigging now, been bloody expensive
