GIBSON Club. Part II

Finally got to play out with my Explorer this past Saturday. My Ric has always been my number one...NOTHING else has ever compared

the Explorer is close, very close like a photo finish being tied for 1st.

I think it comes in second because it is a little awkward in size and the p/u output is lower than the Ric's...

but I have 2 phenomenal bass's now

My Gibson EB3 I recently bought from my uncle. I haven't pinpointed the year yet but pickup position and 3 point bridge it should be somewhere in the 70's

@D.M.N- Whoa that`s a nice set up! I`m really diggin` your Sunn stack! Super tasty!

@mournblade-Nice Explorer! How are you enjoying it so far? I bought a sunburst Explorer a few months back as my first Gibson. I see that you have a Hipshot Supertone on yours. Did it make any tonal changes? How was the install? I want to put one on mine,if only cause I like how it looks.

Thanks, it is a fun collection, lot's of tonal variety, and covers most of the axes I really wanted as a kid.

The hipshot is super easy to install. Undo the 3 adjustment bolts on the stocker, use the SAE hex bolts torqued down tight, but not super tight(don't want to crack the finish/wood/insert). Set string height to prefered action( also a good time to adjust the truss rod), string and intonate. All together with setting string height, intonation, truss rod and re-stringing less than an hour(including lemon oiling the fret board and cleaning the body). Nice low action, super easy to play, sounds killer.

My first quality bass was a Gibson RD Artist a fantastic bass but I traded it away for my first true lefthanded bass (Fender Precision).

Well this past week I finally got back into the Gibson club with my new SG bass (what they are calling the EB-3 these days).

This is a fantastic bass. The build quality is first rate. It is the most resonate bass I've ever had in my hands, it is clear and loud even unplugged. Running through my amp (Ampeg B2/ GB 2x15) is this truly thunderous!

I have no way to take pics right now but I'll get some taken soon.

It's an original toaster - was on it when I bought the bass used in 1972. I just installed a new switch a few months ago and the pottie appears to me to be dated 1970. That pickup makes all the difference. In fact, my band loves this bass - I play it more than my AS Jazz, my guild, my Jaguar bass just because it sounds so much better. It has deeper lows - brighterr highs - will sustain till next week.... plays like a dream. My favorite. : )
