That is the nicest Grabber that I have ever seen, Restoration or someone bought it, put it under the bed and then died with The Gibby not beeing found until his widow decided to move 33 years later? I don't think I have ever seen one with the bridge cover still with it. Nice

thanks alot for the kind words. The seller was the first owner and bought the bass brand new, played it a little, then he bought a five string and in fact put the bass back in it's case (wich is in mint condition too) and never played it again for almost 27 years or so. A real "closet classic" :D

I just like the grabbers with the natural headstock (not painted black as mine) a little better - this is also a beautiful example. What kind of music do you play with it?

I'm the opposite, my preference was strongly for a black headstock and clover tuners when I was looking for my grabber. Really wanted something other than natural as well, but I got a good price on mine.

A while back I bought a Gibson RD Artist. Lovely bass, but unlike the description said, the frets were really worn down and there was some little bits of wear on the fretboard (Much like my grabber had before I sorted that out! Link Removed)

Anyway. I took it to the Gallery in Camden, Its been refretted with Stainless steel frets, the fingerboard has been lightly sanded and refinished, Hipshot Supertone bridge fitted, Dunlop Straplocks and a nice set of extra long scale elixirs.




Well here she is!

Shes been brought back to an excellent condition. The Hipshot really adds to the tone of the instrument and adjustability. The frets are PERFECT, stainless steel.

All work done courtesy of Martin and Co' at the gallery, though I dont think he likes working with stainless steel that much! (Apparantly it was the first time it was ever requested!)

that rd artists are just awesome - it's a lot of money, but, man, that thing is gorgous. Are there any soundclips somewhere? would be awesome

No Gibson bass I ever tried aver felt goot to me ( Fenders either) and dont get me wrong, not other guitar I would rather play next to than a Les Paul but for me, Gibson basses just idnt do it.

Then I walk into a local GC the other day and see this bad boy....I left but thought about it all night.

went back and played it for a little while and thats all she wrote.....Its too early to tell but I may like this more than the Ric

What didn`t you like about the new G3 compared to the Explorer?

I have heard that the(new G3) pick ups are of a different design than the original pups from the G3.

Another reason why I really want a 70`s RD,G3 and Ripper is due to that natural maple finish.

the neck is what I didnt like on the G3 compared the the Explorer...I didnt plug it in to hear it but if the neck isnot good for me it doesnt matter what it sounds like.

over all it felt clunky and heavy to me like a Pbass

The neck on the G3 is indeed much heavier, might even be a bit wider than a P neck. I've been playing a Thunderbird for a few years now, which has a very slim neck, so it did feel a bit unnatural at first, but after a few days it's not an issue anymore.

Soundwise, the G3 is much brighter than the Thunderbird (the Explorer uses the same pickups so I'm guessing it will sound very much alike) although certainly not thin. For comparison: with the T-bird I pull back the bass and the mids on my amp and push the treble, with the G3 I will keep the treble flat and boost mids and bass a bit.
