A question.....if you were me, would you replace the bridge on the RD Standard with a Hipshot one? I currently have a Hipshot bridge on my Epi T-bird, but it would drop in place on the RD, let me know your thoughts!

It depends on your preferences. You might not be able to dial the action as low with the Hipshot as you can with The Oil Rig. That's in a perfect world. If that's not an issue, I'd say go for it.

Hey guys.
A while back I bought a Gibson RD Artist. Lovely bass, but unlike the description said, the frets were really worn down and there was some little bits of wear on the fretboard (Much like my grabber had before I sorted that out! Link Removed)

Anyway. I took it to the Gallery in Camden, Its been refretted with Stainless steel frets, the fingerboard has been lightly sanded and refinished, Hipshot Supertone bridge fitted, Dunlop Straplocks and a nice set of extra long scale elixirs.
Well here she is!
Shes been brought back to an excellent condition. The Hipshot really adds to the tone of the instrument and adjustability. The frets are PERFECT, stainless steel.
All work done courtesy of Martin and Co' at the gallery, though I dont think he likes working with stainless steel that much! (Apparantly it was the first time it was ever requested!)

I have sunk £1705 into buying and getting this instrument ready for gigging now, been bloody expensive
Just bought an RD Standard that I'm going to add the Hipshot bridge to. Glad to hear you were pleased with the results!
My '70s babies!!
Sigh...I thought I would have her back last weekend and then one of the new frets missed getting glue so it popped while I was having the other work done. I bought an original veratone switch plate, a chicken head knob, a new truss nut(it was stripped), missing caps on two of the Schallers, and a new humbucker mount plate since it was cracked. I am getting the veratone switch put back in. It's still a player not a collector's item but I knew if I didn't get the parts now they would be harder to find later. Funny thing, it has a valute. I had no idea an extra knob of wood would have a name. It also has a brass nut that looks original because there is another piece of brass down under the fingerboard at the other end. I think this could have been a mid-year experimental builds. It sustains like a mofo.
Meanwhile, the only other bass I have to play is an acoustic U-Bass. Without it, I am jonesing something awful for a solid body.

I feel your pain. One of my Gibbys is with my luthier being worked on and every time I come into the room the rest of them ask when he is coming back...

Fitted the Hipshot bridge, very pleased with the result. Thanks for the advice and support everyone.
my second gibson bass guitar... (the first one is a gibson eb 2014 5 string rocker) ... great tone, perfect finish, amazing bridge... great pickups ...
too bad they put the 3 point bridge back again in 2019 models in my opinion...mine is the 2018 model. it came with a great set up, very easy to play !!! it even smells great!!!!
my only two complaints are that unfortunately mine came with a bad ground that my tech took care of.... and why on earth gibson is not using more foam under the pickups for a tight fit.... these small things can harm your reputation ... come on it's just foam !!!
now i wish they do a real vintage re-issue of a proper 60's gibson thunderbird... you know .. with all the proper metal covers and tune-o-matic bridge and alnico pickups...
giged with it once ... my guitar player loved it!!!! (also a gibson enthusiast)

Very nice! A rare find. Here's my (rougher) 1987 Q-80 in Black, pictured with my 1987 Thunder Series Bass V in Ferrari Red.
