I never heard that about Jimmy Johnson - very interesting! I definitely fell in love with short scales, Gibson/Guild/Alembic!
really enjoyed listening to your records. thanks!
Rad bass
I had to go back and look... not exactly the same, but close. He played a Les Paul Recording Bass until 1975. Here's a copy/paste from the thread:
"For a few years before discovering Alembic in '75 I was playing a Gibson Les Paul Recording Bass which was probably already tighter spacing than Fender (and a couple frets shorter!)."
Meant to add: and clips. Really sounds great, got the best of both worlds.
So what's the difference between triumph and recording bass models?
The most obvious difference is that the first version was only low impedance - to plug it into a regular amp you needed a transformer. The Triumph has a switch so you can use it either way:

Supposedly the Triumph is lighter too, which is amazing to think of a heavier bass! My Triumph is really heavy, though it feels pretty good to me on a strap. Both the original and the Triumph are short scale - they went to long scale with the Signature.
My Gibby LP is only 7lbs 14ozThanks! Weight seems to be a thing Gibson sees as a myth, at least if the object has the word Les Paul in the name.

Nice that's great looking too. I guess I mean that Gibson sees people wanting light weight as a myth. It seems like throughout their history someone mentions heavy and they go meh.
Nothing wrong with it, just odd.
Not always, at least not with some of their newer offerings. My 2017 EB is 6lb 13oz, and I’ve seen them even lighter.
I think the mahogany bodied models will always be heavy by nature of the wood.
It's a 2019 Black Cherry Burst Studiohey Kriegs, which LP is that ?
Looks cool!My slighty modded DC. Lovin this little beastie. Might put a thunderbucker in itView attachment 3606112
