From the 'short-scale club' thread, my '71 EB-3:

hooooootttt... :bassist:

Here's mine. It's a '64... at least that's the best I can tell anyways by the serial no. and the body/pickup combo. The headstock was broken when I got it and was already repaired badly, then I had it repaired much better. Stripped to natural. OG pickup and hardware (except the truss rod cover, brass nut, and Bad Ass II). Best part... it was given to me by a great friend. Can I have a # too please?

I play Gibson basses live. I had some others... Started off with a Rick live, which I still own but it's an original '64, so I didn't wanna get it damaged. And I move around a lot live, so that's fairly likely. Then I had a Hondo P-bass copy with a humbucker... cool bass, but not a lot to it. I sold it and got it back in parts for less than I sold it for. Think I'm gonna turn it into a normal P-bass. Then an Ibanez Artcore. Another cool bass, but... just didn't sound that great live. Then a Jaguar bass, but I was always hitting buttons live and electronics were always crapping out. Then I got my dream bass since I was in high school (since I stopped playing bass years ago, I never got one and purchased a lot of guitar gear). My first Gibson Grabber. Then a SB-350. Then a G-3. I still have those 3 now and play the Grabber in one band, the G-3 in another. The SB is a backup, the short scale and slightly undefined sound isn't perfect for either of those bands in a live situation. I'd love to snag another Grabber, or a Ripper. Or any older Gibson bass, really. Very cool instruments. I'll post pics sometime.

So, here's my old G-3. I bought it CHEAP in 1980. Pickguard had been sloppily chopped up and 2 J pickups installed, with one original CLEAR resin Bill Lawrence. A BC Rich brass bridge was on her.The other org pups were in the case (one with broken Mounting ears) as well as the three way switch and pots. I abused it in bar bands and most of the wear and tear is from me. The finish is worn off on the thumb area on the neck as well as where the palm sits. The wood is stained with dirt and sweat. the fret board finish is also shot. Any hoo, I figured I should ressurect her and realize alog the way I lost a pup... eeek! Miracle, a dude on fleabay has NOS pups for sale never been used $25:hyper:!! (you should buy some they are awsome!)

So I will rewire her back to original "Buck 'n' a half" config when I get the new pickgaurd... five layer like orig.

Bridge will be a string through job, going cheap cast here, kind of a Hipshot A knockoff, as it's string through and the orig's that I have seen were practically made of tin. Money is tight.

when I took the bridge off I found 14 screw holes so you can see I'm plugging them in the pic.

Does this qualify as a Gibson owner? Numero. gracias.

So my old '75 G-3 lives again. New bridge, old one gone. 1 NOS pup, lucky to get one. new pickgaurd as I butchered orig when I was young and stupid to fit J pups. Not refinishing, wood is too stained where finish is worn through. I haven't played it in 20 years, forgot how nice it is. Sounds badass :bassist:
