That's a beauty! I nearly pulled the trigger on that one myself
I love the single coil snarl of these basses. It did smell like it had never been wiped off in the 37 years or so that it had been kicking around. It almost smelled like dried urine or something. Anyway, it was worth the effort to clean it. Now I just need to find the right Grabber to add to my collection.
I've seen it here in the classifieds as well but wasn't sure if you'd want to be called out by name.
Does anyone own the reissue Ripper withteh 6 position rotary switch? Is it any good? there;s not much out there about them except for the gibson website which still has the specs i think

I think they look great so I called a buddy who works for Gibson. He said they're cool, but don't sound anything line a vintage Ripper, which is all I needed to hear
I appreciate that. I understand you can find a g3 for less, but I have yet to see a sunburst one in as great condition, and with such a nice aged tinted neck. I am not trying to sell it unless I get back what I paid. (I haggled Mr Music down from 1400 to 1200 cash).
I finally got a chance to play my G3 for a while today. Sounds really awesome. Those three single coil pickups are pure magic!

That's too bad, i actually thought that out of all those reissus, the ripper would sound closer to the original than does the G3 or the grabber. (those look cool too) But i guess because it's lacking the string through option and the phases on the rotary, it doesnt sound like the original

so i don't play my grabber too often, mainly because the neck gets sticky because i feel the finish is getting pretty thin, would it be safe to put tung oil on it? would that even help? the tung oil on the lowes website says not to use it over existing finishes...
give the neck a few passes with some #0000 steel wool. it won't remove much of the finish and will make it nice & smooth feeling again
My 1976 Gibson Grabber G3 arrived today!
It's early days, but so far I am really digging the tone. It's in the pickups and the that the strings go through the body.
The only gripe is that pickguard is warped and I'll have to find a way to make a new one or buy a replacement pickguard, but I'm not sure if this is a common pickguard shape.

I ordered a new 5 ply pg from Pickguard Heaven. Just like original. They have the pattern. But it wasn't perfect, there seems to be variations. Best to send it to them to replicate.

You can always put it between two pieces of glass, put it in the summer sun for an hour and bring it in and stack a bunch of books in it and let it cool. It works.
I might try something like that. I would rather leave it original if at all possible.

I will try flattening it first before ordering from pickguard heaven.
Man...I actually missed an ebay sale where an 80 grabber was really in very good shape. It was $400 more than what I paid, but looking back maybe it would have been better to spend the $400 more... then again. I saved $400 for the same tone (hopefully)
