Ripper owners, are you happy with the 4 way rotary switch and the combinations it provides?

Seems odd they wouldn't solo the neck pickup in one of those combinations.

when I got mine, the wiring was buggered. rather than restore to the factory wiring scheme, I wired it like a Les Paul. one of the reasons I decided to do that was exactly what you mentioned, you couldn't solo the neck pickup with the original wiring.

Do any of you ripper owners have to crank your amp up compared to your other basses when you play it live?

Couldn't you raise your pickups? I don't own a Ripper, but I know there's two types of p'ups. First the type with two mounting screws that go right through the pickup. On these just take the pickups off and put some foam under them. Then there's the style that have three screws and mount directly on the pickguard. For these you can get more height by taking them off and removing the spring on each of the screws and replacing it with some surgical tubing cut to say, 1/4", so you can set them higher; if that makes sense. Maybe this will help?

No. Maybe your pickups are too low or they are coming to the end of their life-cycle?

I usually stick to the "in phases - series" setting (setting 1 on the rotary switch) - it sounds loud and phat. The other settings aren't quite as powerful, but have their use in the studio.

My blonde ripper sounds slightly different to my ebony ripper. Probably due to the different wood, body finish and how the pickups are mounted different (the ebony pups are attached to the pickguard whereas the blonde pups are mounted to the body of the bass).

I raised my pickups a little more and it did seem to make a big difference on my ashdown practice amp because now if I play hard it pegs the needle. I'll find out this weekend when i play it live.

Finally landed a fretless ripper in good playing condition. Has some road wear, but all is solid and the original electronics are clean.

Because I really like the Gibson Gs , I decided to adopt this club. Jaymi is active with TB, but not recently with this club, so I pulled all the numbers together and made a current club list.

In the past, number 18 was handed out to two people, so 18-21 have been renumbered below compared to previous pages. The three people who posted about having their Gibsons stolen also got #s - its the least we can do, right?

Hey guys,This is 76' Grabber, I got the maple neck sanded down as it was pretty worn. Refinished in gloss and refretted. Replaced the original bridge with a Hipshot A style 18mm, string thru holes lined up perfectly!

Body will be refinished when I get around to it, but I am very happy with the way it plays and how the bridge worked out!

Nice to know you found a replacement bridge that works with the body holes. I'm sure there will be others who find that info useful.
