Gibson Thunderbird?

Simple...Tell me why I should (or not) buy me a T-Bird.

I've played one a couple of gigs and now i really REALLY want one for myself

Jupp, really loved it but I don't feel like 3 gigs was enough for me to make the final call on buying or not. What kind of music do you play with your t-birds? What (if any) problems will I get with this baby bird?

If you like it, that's enough. I have a Studio 5 stringer that I love because it's so unlike my other basses. And it has that total rock look. I like black basses, but color is a personal preference. Go for it.

i prefer a bass with character marks. as long as it's priced appropriately.

Tell the seller to ad $500 to the price(kidding).

There is hope for neck dive and it looks like that one has part of it from the factory(strap button on heel of neck). Add a wide strap and you're done.

Oh, PLEASE install straplocs of some sort and maybe glue them in.
T-Birds do not survive too well if they go down on the machine head.

From the pics I got, and from talking with the seller, the headstock is mint and has never been damaged.

Pros:

It looks more rock and roll than anything.

Cons:

Fragile headstock/nut area

Really limited tonal range.

It feels really long- and the case is long- sometimes transporting it takes a little extra doing.

Some say neck dive- I don't have a problem with it.

I tell anyone who buys a Gibson bass, buy try it if you dont like it sell it, If bought used, you will not loose money on it. They sell day & night at set prices, usually going up. Same holds true with Rics


It's worth the money to try one. You wont loose on it.

It's like trying to move a used Carvin or Warwick.
