Gift ideas for a bassist?

Is the musician's version of "here's some aftershave - you stink"?

Or an unasked for gym membership. Just don't.

ha ... okay, will suggest a gift certificate.

The gift for the lazy, which combines all of the impersonality of giving cash with, potentially, restriction to a place that may not be where they want to shop for themself.

Found this on ETSY..Purple Heart and Mahogany …really nicely made. $75View attachment 5161039

Dear God, that's hideous. Don't give someone a tchotchke they have to debate how long they are obliged to keep before dropping at the thrift shop.

Gifts of things tend to be cringeworthy for their combination of good intentions and poor aim, as is obvious from the vast range of suggestions here.

I would suggest a gift of experience: how about a trip to see a band the GF knows the BF likes at a venue just far away to make it an overnight together. It shows a genuine interest in what the givee likes and would appreciate with a desire to spend time and share experiences with that person. Just make sure the tickets/hotel are refundable in case the date is no good. And consider any children or animals that would need caretaking.

Or heck, just tell them that you'd like to to something special for their birthday and ask what they'd like! Not everybody likes surprises.

TBH, I’d need to see the cat’s practice area or studio. Anyone walking into mine would say I need a guitar hard case, amp stand, dual instrument rack or stand, a tool cab or box with drawers for my set up tools, string packs, etc. maybe mic for DB or acoustic panels.

But gift from spouse, I’d say a couple concert tickets for a real artist, not necessarily bassist, or even famous, but great seats where one can really get the experience.

Not against the idea but… the inset grain is out of alignment. That would drive me crazy. Honestly I probably wouldn’t display it if it was larger that 5x8.

However, one of the coolest gifts I've ever received was this gift from my wife. I had the Mingus lithograph for a while, and she snuck it out and had it professionally framed.

This is one of my favorite gifts to get. After a lifetime of people getting me some passion-adjacent gift that is either completely wrong, or cheaply made I’d rather have a nice bottle of scotch. The things I want for bass are practical things like strings or cables. I doubt anyone would want to buy me DB strings once they priced them, and the cables I build myself based on need. So a gift card to one of the places that gets me those things would be awesome.

How about a custom bobblehead?
First of all, it's fun. Secondly, they can be customized.
You can dress it, undress it, put it in different positions and so on. Here's how a Link Removed would look like.
I think it's a good gift, that will engrave you in your friend's mind.
