The stage manager should have shut him down. Unless they were far enough behind schedule that getting a jump on setting up the kit was the stage manager’s idea…The festival organizers should have been on top of that and dealt with the doofus.
Yeah, I've also heard the "Got mine" nonsense a ton. Predominantly from my friends aging parents and the less than half a dozen that have grandparents still. YMMVSadly, etiquette is quickly becoming a thing of the past, while self-sacrifice and service to others are too often viewed as artifacts of a bygone era.
These days, I continually see the shrug of indifference to the needs of others, and hear the implicit shriek, "I've got mine; screw you!"
Too many are preoccupied with their "rights" while expressing little to nothing about their civic or social responsibilities.
I fear these are signs of a once-great society in collapse.
I’m finding it’s the older folks as well.Yeah, I've also heard the "Got mine" nonsense a ton. Predominantly from my friends aging parents and the less than half a dozen that have grandparents still. YMMV
Initially OP's post confused me. I thought it was "He was loading on stage AS we were loading off" not "He was loading onto the stage AS we were playing". The first being fine if it's not causing trouble. The second is fairly rude and distracting.
If anything, most the young people are pretty elbows in when it comes to distance and other peoples space. There's a reason that there's a meme that's circulated a few times about how difficult it'd be to get the young millennial author to yell at wait/service staff. That they could be "brought a bowl of rats and the response would be 'Oh, sorry it would appear you've brought me someone elses rats'".I’m finding it’s the older folks as well.

Up until this point I was going to post something like "Cut the kid some slack, he is obviously super nervous before his first gig"... but even if that had been true, he would have needed to be given that lesson there and then. It's not like this was a young player or new musician. He had to be in his 60s.

We were complimented by the sound guy and MC saying we were a much more "established" act than the other bands that played on the smaller stage so I think we are in good shape for next year.
