Give Notice?

You should always give notice, if at all possible. It's the right and professional thing to do and can only help you.

This^^^. Keep notes as to how it all shakes out...just to CYA.

Even if you give notice, they may show you the door anyway. So be it...it's their prerogative.

P.S. any personal items or cruicial tools you own should be removed by you starting ASAP so if it gets messy, you get out quickly with all you brought in.

What I told them when we talked is if I was to leave, and when I did the first time, you'd want 2 weeks notice. Its respectful. If I'm willing to leave them hanging you should be concerned that I'd leave you hanging too. But talking to some people I'm wondering how many people give 2 weeks anymore.

I did when i changed jobs this month... Not giving 2 weeks doesn't really effect the company or your boss, it more so effects people you work with. We had a guy walk out before, it screwed me, i had to work 16 hours straight because of him walking out.


Here is the thing, at least here in Bay Area, tech field (which i am in) is very tight. You are not burning bridges with the company, you are also burning them with coworkers. Later on you might depend on those coworkers to get another job.

I worked about 7 months at my old company and they interviewed 3 people that i worked with 3 years ago at a different company. The way i thought of them is what they depended on in the end as far as hiring them

In the end, when i leave the company i do it on good terms with my coworkers. Because of this, I have no problems finding jobs around here. I get hit up by people who i worked with 3 years ago who ask me if I want to go work with them.

The guy who walked out will never get a job at place i work in or will get a job at any place i know people as they ask me too about my old/current coworkers.

Good advice. In that respect it's the same as if you were preparing to leave a band.

Would your current employer give you two weeks notice if he was going to fire you?

Would he give you a severance package ?

Always take the high road, unless you are physically in danger from staying the two week period.
