Double Bass GK 200MB - looking for that or similar

I bought a used GK 200MB - pretty sure it was from a fellow TB'er. I love it and use it mostly for electric bass and electric guitar in my teaching studio, and like knowing it would be a good double bass amp if I need that, too. I don't see them coming up for sale used very much. Anyone care to recommend something comparable?

I ask only because I've got an adult guitar student who finds every guitar amp she tries too bright - she like the way my 200MB sounds so I told her I'd ask.

I recently tried a GK MB-112 - nice, but to my mind, enough larger and heavier that it's a different thing. Is the MB-150E (or 150S) the successor to the 200MB?

I see GK Backline combos for sale for not much money - the GK web site has only a backline head that I see? Are the combos in any comparable to the MB's?

And, of course, if anyone has a 200MB to sell, let me know that, too.

Long ago Gallien Krueger stop building the 200MB and released first the MBE which was followed by the MBS, because IMHO the MBE's new EQ voicing just didn't sound as good with Double Bass. They do come up occasionally for sale, but not all that often recently. Personally, I believe that the GK MBS is very close and can be purchased new or used.

Well, for it's price point it's a very reasonably priced bass amp, but I wouldn't trade it for the 200MB because the pre amp is so beautifully voiced for Double Bass. The MBE or MBS are sturdier amplifiers, as players have played gigs with them for over 10 years. The jury is still out on the MB112's since there just a little over a year old.

Personally, I've never cared for the GK Backline Series. From what I've seen and played of them the newer MB112, MB115, and MB210 are much nicer amps. Just my take though.

Ric, thank you. I think my student just doesn't want a guitar amp. I had her try my guitar amp, which is Peavey Envoy 110, which to my ears is a fine guitar amp that'll do a lot of things, but nothing I could do with it made her happy - she just likes the sound of her guitar through a bass amp. At next week's lesson, I'll run her guitar through my AI setup, which is an original series head and Series III Contra-EX - that'll be brighter, at least somewhat, compare to the GK - we'll see what she thinks of that.

I"ve owned backline --- kind o sucked

for price... not much out there competes with the gk.

for sound she may be really discussing the portaflex (ampeg) .. the solid states are worthy.
