Double Bass GK/EUB/Preamp question

So I have a GK 150mb, when I play my ERGO EUB through it it sounds like amplified double bass without the boom.

I am imagining the GK is set up for piezos, no? When I am on tour and playing through anything, it gets a nastier sound - which can work fine for some music!

The question is: will one of those $60 Fishman preamps warm up the piezos for regular bass and keyboard amps?
I like to keep my travel gear cheap and think of it as disposable - so I'd like not to spend more.

The sound is fine through my GK, but I just don't want a ton of checked stuff, the EUB goes as carry on.

yes, and yes

but I think the fdeck box cost a little less and is much more versatile than the fishman, plus you could mount it on your bass and leave it plugged in without draining the battery, since the unit is activated by the output jack

Good info. No pre-amp on the Ergo, just a piece of wood, strings and realist-style set of piezos under the bridge feet.

Ah. In that case, yes, I would definitely use a preamp, and can vouch for the fdeck. Couldn't be lighter, simpler or more transparent. I can even drive my mixing desk with it (in case you find yourself without an amp altogether), but you wouldn't want to have too long a cable.
