GK MB 200: Part Two

Just got my MB200 from Bass NW. I tried it with a Bergantino ex112, an Ampeg svt210av and an Eden ex112. Suprisingly the Eden ex112 had the best overall tone and the most bass extension of the three. At half the price of the Bergantino I brought home the Eden. WOW! I am impressed with this little rig. It makes my Peavey DataBass (450w 1x15) sound like crap.

That's interesting. I was wondering how that cab sounds but I haven't been able to find much about them online. Did you get the 4 or 8 ohm version? How do you find the top end without a tweeter?

I got the 4ohm version as that was what they had in stock and works well with the MB200. I don't plan to play out much so this rig is perfect for my living room. The cabinet is quite a bit smaller than most other 1x12s but is ported well (similar in size to Mark Bass ny121) The high end is pretty good. I looks like it has some type of coaxial tweeter built into the dust cap on the driver. Like the MB200 this cab sounds like it should be much larger and much more expensive.

How does it fit - long way up and down or side to side? How much extra room? Hopefully it fits almost like a slipcase.

I slip the amp in the long way and then zip it up. There is still room for the power cord, stuffed in alongside the top or bottom sides of the amp. What I like is that it's got a little bit of padding, yet it still fits into a gig bag.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago, but only got to use it in rehearsal for the first time last night, because the guy I play with most of the time lately had the flu for those two weeks, and we were out of commission.

Anyway, one thing I love about this amp is the fatness. It's almost as though GK went out of their way to combat the subconscious notion, "It's a tiny amp... it must sound tiny." (Or "tinny.") Yet, it has the classic GK clarity.

I still think my old 400RB will get more use in some situations because it has more "throaty" mids than the MB200. But the MB200 will be perfect for tomorrow night's gig, because the same guy who had the flu is now showing signs of carpal tunnel syndrome, and will be singing, but not playing guitar. So, we'll have one guitarist, a drummer, a sax/harp/flute player, and me, playing in a nice, small, carpet & wood room. I'm thinking that the MB200, paired with a single GK 210RBH cabinet and a couple of Jazz Basses (flatwound and roundwound strings, probably with both pickups maxed) will be perfect to fill it out. Warmth and clarity... that's what I'm aiming for.
Sorry if I'm rambling... I just really dug playing through this amp last night...

Great setup for that type of room IMO. My "small, carpet & wood room" setup is MB200, Aggie GS112, Fender Jazz - and I'm good to go!

So I'm joining too. Just picked up a used one here for a decent price. I got to try it out last night at practice through a not so efficient 4 ohm 2x10 against a heavy hitting drummer and a not so quiet guitarist and all I can say is wow!

Definitely different than my Orange TB500 but incredible tone and like a quarter of the size. Might take this to the next gig instead. Though I'd have to take the 2x12 for that instead.
