GK MB 200: Part Two

Question. Has anyone has the top cover off of theirs yet? Looks like a simple six screws two on top and two on each side. I am told there might be some difficulty with the side screws. Are they Loctited or require a little heat to loosen up?

Here's my situation. sold one here and shipped it off to the buyer. I packed it as well as it was packed to me which looked just fine given it's size and weight. Somewhere between NY and FL some of the fine folks at the USPS played a little soccer with it because when it arrived it had the right side front handle snapped clean off. No visible box damage. I thought I had it pretty well immobilized but apparently I did not.

So one screw is rattling around inside. I asked the very gracious buyer if before returning it to me if he would pop the top and get that loose screw out of there but he ran into such resistance with the side screws that he aborted the mission, which I agreed with. I am just curious what I need to know before it's gets back and I plan my attack. I am also hoping that the bass control pot shaft is also not been tweaked. It's hard to tell in this pic...

Also, anyone ever ordered any replacement parts for this amp or through GK in general? I emailed last night but still no response today for my handle request.

Well, my issue ended up be a relative non-issue after all. The the amp was delivered today and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. From the original pic it looked like the handle had some damage from being broken off but it turns out it was never actually broken off at all. As I inspected things the threaded holes in the handles and screws were both in
perfect shape. I popped the top off and found the missing screw happily sitting safely in the rear of the amp. I tested the screws in the holes and they threaded perfectly. So a little blue Loctite and 20 minutes later we're good as new. Snugged everything else up while I was in there as well. Plugged in and tested 100%. A happy ending all in all.

At this point it's just a very odd thing that has me baffled. All I can figure is that the handle may have already been loose from past travels and this trip finished the job. I never checked the handles to see if they were loose as I never had any that were.

But, it is nice to know that should anyone need a replacement handle they are available. Here's the info sent to me by the fine folks at GK:

The handles (hardware included) are available.

Note, GK requires a $10.00 minimum for all orders.

It worked well in practice with my Neo 410. Live, I think I'd want FOH support, or both my 410s. I'm in a loud band, though, so a single 410 (or 2 210s) might be enough for you.

Yup. Loud five piece rock band as well. And we always have solid FOH which is why I have downsized to a smaller head and normally an Avatar Neo 210 on an angled stand just for personal monitoring. Everyone else gets what they need back through the monitors. Has really brought the overall stage and room sound down to give our FOH gut a lot more control.

I went from an MB500 to an MB800 down to a TC BH250 right now. I was going to run two MB200 and two Neo 210, one for me and one for our drummer but the BH250 has impressed me in its first time out. But my next challenge will be to decide if the GK or TC sound better suits me. Both are subtly unique with their own strengths so I am torn.

Having no experience whatsoever with TC, I say GK. ;) Just find that GK is MY sound.

Which is what I thought too. Crisp, deep and modern. But I am finding I am a bit bipolar with my preference. The TC does this present and articulate midrange, especially with some chorus, with such surprising ease and it's a voice I haven't explored fully yet. And the TC EQ has an interesting functionality. Just really versatile. But it's a bit more 'vintage' (I hate that term) in its bass and treble voicing. Not extremely so, just feels slower or softer in its response, if that makes sense at all. My TC RH450 had similar traits but even less modern sounding overall. Every GK MB model I have owned has nailed the fast responding modern sound I love as well. So the testing continues. No loser here either way.

I'd say look further at the GK. My mids are pretty darn articulate after some recent tweaking.

Here are my typical GK EQ starting points as of now:

Treble: 10:00
Hi Mids: 1:00
Low Mids: 2:00
Bass: 1:00

Boost at noon, presence off and maxed woofer if I'm using a head with those options. That's about it. See what you think with those settings.
