It's not as badly scooped as my H&K tube amp. That one needs mids to 3 o'clock & treble & bass to about 8 o'clock to be flat.

That sounds like a pretty standard Fender tone stack flat setting.

That's one of the things I like about the Aggy pre-amp & the Tone Hammer amps, noon is flat, for real.
People think they're mid-forward, but it's really just that their EQs are designed correctly (IMHO).

The Fender stack was originally meant to work with open backed cabs loaded with vintage guitar drivers, which makes the baked in scoop pretty understandable IMO. The settings to get to nominally flat on a G-K are a lot less goofy at least.

That's not really dead flat by any means, but I'd only call it slightly mid forward, and of course it doesn't factor in the most important variables, the speaker cabs and the room. By comparison, here's the measured response of a tube preamp I built several years ago, which had no tone controls of any kind:

I made it that way just to see if I could, but it sounded very boring for live bass playing in that format and I eventually put in actual tone controls and a small amount of baked in voicing, which I like a lot better.

I tried tube rolling with the mb fusion 500. I found it sounded best with the stock jj's. It was too bright and harsh with others I tried such as the tungsols. The jj's just sounded the warmest in that amp
