I disagree that it's a design flaw; I'd bet it's intentional.

I agree. Kind of makes sense to kind of 'go back to basic settings' at start up, although I guess I can see it as a positive and negative, depending on if some of those settings are 'basic settings' for a given individual.
For example, the TC RH450/750 'stays where you put it', even though it is a true 'digital preamp' with all knobs except the master being 'electronic'.
Sounds like a pure 'design choice' to me.
