GK MB112-II

What a great little amp. I took it to rehearsal. Two guitarists with Fender 30 Watt tube amps, mic'd piano, Vox, loud drummer. Playing Al Green, William Bell, Staple Singers. My Sadowsky was loud and clear, present and actually perfect. Wow.

This has me rethinking things. I've been using my Demeter 400D and a DB112 when I have FOH. I might just start using the GK. Even easier load in and out. I might try the extension cab when I don't have FOH instead of taking my Super Bassman and TecAmp 212.

I'm with you T, I recently purchased the GK 212-II and I'm rethinking things myself. We have a couple low to mid volume rooms we play (always run FOH) and the 4x10 with a head has been my "small" rig for many years. This thing sounds big and at 41 pounds, damn.

I always thought the GK sounded "good for a combo" but in a mix sounds really really great, like as good as almost anything else.

Bought the MB112 new five or six months ago, based on a player recommendation, reviews, and honestly I was largely shopping by weight. I am not as young as once thought I was! Really worked well in rehearsal and SO easy to travel. Picked up the matching 112MBP extension, used a couple months later. 400 watts, 2 X 12's good to go!

Brought my combo and ext. to the gig this Saturday. Medium size place, space for around 200 -225. Front of house sound in use, sound guy even mic'd the drums, which is nice. After sound check he said three times, "a lot of bass". Talked it over with him, and decided to turn the extension cab off and run with only the 112 combo. More than enough for everyone on stage. Ran it set around "6", and never looked back.

I'll keep the extension cab for outdoor gigs, or when FOH is not available in larger spaces, but I think I am not going to use it that often. These little boxes rock.

Had my mini stack for awhile now and still love it, even though I have bigger more capable options. Sounds great with upright!

My 2x112s next to @10cc's 2x12

Nice looking doghouse, Dave. I love the white on black.

I play electric, Fender P/J , mostly through the P, because the J isn't shielded yet.

I found the drummers beer in your first picture!

How'd you get those big ugly chrome GK's off?? (I've got the 2 1x12s also.)
Somewhere on the bottom edge of the cabs are two little clips you press in with a small flat head and the grill will come off and then you just unscrew the two nuts and whamo. I took mine off my 212II. I think it looks better and folks are always wondering what in the hell it is. That GK emblem has a little weight to it. Not enough to matter but enough that makes me think that over time it could pull on the grill cloth. But who knows I'm probably wrong.

Thanks, guys. I'll check...

I noticed the grill was crooked on mine when I got it back in the living room after the gig, grabbed it and popped it off. I might have the holes that Dave mentioned but I think they are blocked by the rubber feet on the bottom.

With the grill off, and eyes on it, I see that... the emblem is bolted firmly (3x) to the plywood grill-frame, and the frame is held to the box by plastic hook-and-loop fasteners in each corner. If you grab the lower leg of the letter "K" it might be "handle" enough to work the grill free from the box. {I have the made in USA version II. Cannot speak to the made in China version I. Your mileage may vary. just sayin'. CMA.}

Wellllllllllll...............
When I joined TB 10 + years ago it was all the rage, dare not mention COMBO! Even if you asked, what kind of COMBO should I get....?
Well, they finally wore me down and I ended up buying a GK MB500 and MB200. I've owned three different speaker combinations. The last one was two AudioKinesis H1203's, which I loved. I sold the AK's and still have the GK heads. Now I'm getting ready to sell the heads and buy a couple GK combos. Maybe the MB500 210 or a GK MB112. Sooo, I've made a complete circle. I'm heading back to combos!

Sigh.... I'm actually half torn on selling the GK heads. I'm considering a couple Barefaced One10's. But the GK combos sure seem to be the way to go nowadays... I think the original Markbass 112's turned the industry on its head. Now the GK MB112's doing the same thing. I'm very tempted...

Man I hear ya. I scored a MB212II from the classifieds about two years ago now ($425) and I love it. I own an 800rb and have always loved the sound that amp makes so it made sense to get the combo. Basically the same sound. Also loud as hell for a combo and light. Very deceiving
