GK mb200 ultra light head?

. If anyone finds a bag that fits that is readily available please clue us in !Allright then. If going from 100 watts to 200 watts doesn't bolster volume all that much then what is the advantage? I am trying to decide between the GK MB200 or the GK goldline 500 watt head. The MB200 can be grabbed for $230 and the Goldline I can get for $300. If I'm not going to get that much more volume from the 500 watts of the goldline then I'd rather have theMB200 for less and with less weight. Any thoughts?
I was messing around a little with the MB200's DI tonight. I just used a PFL level on a mixer channel to do some rough level testing. Pre EQ, it's a simple DI. It's clean. Sounds just like the bass. Post EQ requires you to crank the volume to about noon to get the same DI output level as it gets Pre EQ. That's plenty of volume for me on stage (maybe too much). With the contour switch on, it cuts the mids pretty well and I had to turn up the volume a little more to compensate. I'm going to gig with it Tuesday during our Sugar Bowl show and see how it works live.

For the money and size, I like the mb200. I have 2 of them. Playing one of my stereo basses tonight!
Gallien-Krueger came through again! This is a GREAT amp - it sounds awesome and the portability is almost ridiculous. No complaints here.

I'm looking hard at getting one, and I'm going to stick it in my aluminum briefcase that my compressor and cables go in. I got the briefcase at harbor freight tools several years ago for around $15. It's around 12" x 16" and is padded very well.
Trying to find one of these gound lift cables for my MB200 locally with no luck. Is this doing more than simply removing pin 1 from the circuit? I'm getting some conflicting information on the best way to lift ground on an XLR. Some boxes use a resistor/capacitor and leave pin 1 connected. Anyone every build one?

That's the diff between "full" and "partial" ground lift. Google is your friend on this.

That said, I'm pretty sure the ground lift switches in heads and most typical DI boxes are "full".
I am *so* tempted to pick one of for small gigs & backup use... but I've got a perfectly good, if very old and beat-up 400RB for that purpose... But the notion of just sticking a head into my gig bag... woo hoo!

Yup, that is the document I was reading...everything we use it balanced out to the board, so the simple pin1 removal sounds like it would work for us.

Mine came unexpectedly early today! I am amazed by the size and weight of this little thing. I plugged it in and it sounds pretty good. It definitely sounds better @ 4 Ohms than @ 8 Ohms (through 1 x 12s), but it doesn't quite equal my MarkBass LMII or Mesa Walkabout. It holds its own and will be a really good backup, which is what it was bought for and for the price, you can't really go wrong.

My USB pedal wasn't cutting it as a standalone and my main amp is in a 4 space rack, so I bought the MB200 for the sole purpose of having a desktop practice amp to run into my Mac for play-along practice and overdubbing while monitoring via headphones. No cab. It is absolutely perfect in that role. Sounds great, takes up no space and has plenty of tone options.
No more breaking down and packing the home stuff! I'm really happy with it.

I agree that these little guys are great. Now if someone could just accomplish the same feat (small, cheap, and good sounding) in a cab . . .
Class D speakers
Nah, I think speakers is where physics conspires to make this very hard... That said, the premium speakers made today are SO much better than anything made 20-30 years ago... I fill up so much space with bass just using two 2x10s today - - and I *know* those huge old rigs we used to use (2x15 or 4x12) not only weren't as loud, but didn't sound as good. We *are* living in the golden age of bass gear, right now - particularly amps and speakers.
I have a few questions about the MB200 head.
I may have to get an amp very soon to use for church. (Long story...our church is going thru some changes....new temporary location as well).
I need something where I can be able to hear myself on stage in a high school auditorium. Pretty good sized stage and I'm guessing the room seats about 800. I'd be sharing the stage with 3 vocalist's, a drummer, a lead guitarist (playing thru an amp mic'd to the PA), keyboard player (direct to PA) and an acoustic guitar player (also direct to the PA). Onstage monitors for all....nothing huge, enough to be heard but of what I've been told they're not enough to accomidate the bass.
Taking into consideration that I'd be going direct in one way or another to the PA (but not in the monitors), would the MB200 head thru a 2X12 cabinet be enough to hear myself onstage with all involved? (For what it's worth I'd be using my Ibanez SR505 thru the amp).
I've been putting off buying an amp for years because I really didn't need one but it's coming down to where I may HAVE to buy one. I don't want to over-buy, but I don't want to under-buy either.

I sound better now than I ever have and at only a fraction of the weight. I couldn't be happier with the increase in light weight options available to us today.
While I only have a little experience with the MB200 having only played through it today, you may want to consider the MB500 if it's a large stage.
