GK mb200 ultra light head?

If the feet were off, it would have fit in the string compartment of my hard case....
Feel free to remove them. Their screws don't do anything for anything in the amp.
It usually lives on a slick, wood topped desk, so it needs them for traction. Otherwise I would!
A small piece of tool mat or carpet anti-skid rubber works perfectly for this kinda' thing.

I don't currently have my wireless unit racked, and I don't have the rubber nubs on the bottom anymore because I probably will re-rack it at some point. I have a small square of that tool mat stuff and just set it under it on top my amp. Doesn't move one iota all night.

Otherwise, what you can also do is just get some of those small stick on rubber feet that are only about 1/8" thick.

Either way, problemo solved. :)

I'm interested in buying one of those for portability. Do you think a MB200 and a 4x10" (I'd probably get the MBE 4x10" at 40lbs) cab would be loud enough for medium gigs (Drums, bass, 1 guitar and 1 keyboard)?

It's as loud as any 200 watt amp out there. What are you using now in comparisoin? Do you use PA? I do, and I get by with a 2x10. One thing I have found is that the DI gets pretty hot in post EQ. Running the volume at noon gets the DI running hot, but clean as a wistle. There is a lot of volume left after noon, and if you need that, you might have to switch to pre EQ on the DI or it might start clipping as you start maxing out the amp.

right now I use a Yorkville Bassmaster 200, which I really like, but it's a pain in the ass to move around, I'm not a big guy and although 65lbs is not that heavy, I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building and rehearse 2 times a week in 2 different locations. I'd like something that would be loud enough to do medium gigs (small to medium bars - 50-150 ppl) without PA support. I read that usually to add volume you need more speakers, so a 4x10" would be my choice. What do you think?

Two SVT210AV's will rock your world and are more portable than a 4x10 - better dispersion too when stacked  . If one isn't loud enough for rehearsals you should find another band to play with while you can still hear  .

Can't believe I haven't posted this here yet... recent gig with the MB200...

No drums, but up to four amplified guitars and even a banjo at one point. NO problem keeping up with just the 110/112 mini stack. Even had a bassist in the audience comment on how "punchy" it was, and I was not afraid to hit the B string, either. I'd seriously nominate this head for one of the best bass products of last year.

Hey Vic,
I'm curious. How much does the toe change if you were only running into the 110 as opposed to the 110 and 112? Is the difference very noticeable?

Well first of all not only would I lose some output power, but even more importantly, I'd be cutting more than half of my total radiating area, so it'd be a large drop in volume. From a strictly tonal perspective, I'd also be losing some natural low end extension by dropping the 112. If I was playing with a smaller group of guitars that maybe weren't playing as loud as those guys were, it'd probably be viable, however. I think I might still miss the rounder bottom of the 112 though, even if I didn't need the extra volume.

Now, that said, what about the GK Neo112-II cabs? Whole different ball game. First of all, those cabinets just seem particularly "loud" to me, and they have both a really big bottom to them as well as doing a nicer job than a lot of 112/212 cabs at reproducing upper mids. Maybe not as nice as the Berg AE112's for upper mids, but as good or better than most others I've tried, at least.

I specifically wanted to try those cabs for that gig, but if I was going to use the GK's, I probably at least woulda' tried it with one at first.

Would there be some 2x10s suggestions? The svt210av look nice but only rated 200w @ 8ohms which leaves no room for upgrade, which we all know is always possible with GAS! thats why I was going the 4x10" route, might be overkill?
What? Yes there is!

That would be PERFECTLY fine. All that means is that cabinet shouldn't be driven with more than 200W, but at 8 ohms, with the MB200, it never would be. Probably the most it would ever see would be around 100W or so. So with it being an 8 ohm cabinet, you simply add a second one if you need to be louder, and boom. You have a nice "410" rig at 4 ohms, capable of handling at least 400W total, driving it with a nice little 200W amp.

I can't think of a better arrangement if those cabs fit your tonal goals.

And if in the future I was to upgrade to a MB500, would it suffice or would it be overpowered? Not trying to piss you guys off :D I just want to know if the cabs would be something I could keep in case I find that the MB200 is not enough, which I honestly think that it should, though.

The MB500 has some power. You would just have to watch it. Stay off boosting the bass knob. That amp can shred lots of speakers out there. If for some reason you don't like it, you can sell that amp right back out, or use it as a backup. I think it sounds better than the 500, so I obviously push the MB200 onto people. If you could try them both, that would be best.

I would agree with this except to say it's probably generally less of an issue than most people think. If you're feeding a cab a nice clean signal without any ridiculous EQ settings, you can very often safely exceed their rated power by a decent margin.

Thing is, even with the 500, the power you'd be feeding those cabs from a continuous program standpoint would typically be well within their capacity, and even when going "over" it shouldn't be by much. I'm oversimplifying here, but 250 each vs the rated 200 is pretty much not a big deal IMHO.

I was about to sell my TC Electronic RH450 and buy an inexpensive micro amp (Carvin, GB, MB or Eden) to back up my Orange tube head but the insanely low price of the MB200 will allow me to keep my TC and Orange.

The GK is the price of a boutique foot pedal for god's sake!:smug:

I really need a small rehearsal amp but the MB200 sounds so good, it may see more gigs than I thought possible.

P.S. On my way to pick up my MB200 now!

Ok so I looked at the FAQs and the proposed minimum for gigs is 4-500w. How would the MB200 compare at gig volume with, let's say, a 400w head through the same cab? Similar volume?
Unfortunately, the answer is, It depends.

What sort of cab(s) did you have in mind? And which 400 watt head did you have in mind?

Not sure I agree with the 400-500 watt recommendation, but that's another matter entirely.
