GK mb200 ultra light head?

The capabilities of this head are great! I played a youth retreat last weekend with the MB200 through my Avatar 410 Neo with no PA support, approx. 70 people, 4 sets. It was fabulous! Nowhere near all its max volume. Granted, there was no drummer, just a mic'd 112 Fender amp for the Electric player and an acoustic run to the board, plus vocals in the PA, but my little amp was more than well equipped for the situation.
I used the headphone and aux input features to learn the songs and it was great. I have never had an amp that I could use in so many different contexts as a tool to help me be a better musician.
I would like to get an MB500 or MB800, but so far, though this is the smallest (in wattage AND size, Lol!) amp I have owned since my first 100 watt Laney combo 15 years ago, I have yet to "need" nearly all of its output for what I do, and that can get decently loud. It makes more sense to me for my needs to get a second MB200!
I do hope to get 2 G-K NEO 112's this year for more weight saving, and after Tom Bowlus' glowing support of that cab, I feel it would be a great match.

If you're in the minority on this, then so am I. I love this amp, but I'd love to have just about any other control there instead. The only thing I can surmise is that there are a lot of folks out there that like that control, otherwise it wouldn't be on there. I hate it. Kills my mix presence. That said, it doesn't bug me too much. I don't really need a compressor, and generally don't like the integrated ones too much, and I can't think of another control I'd really like on there... except MAYBE to convert one of the mids to a semi-parametric and make that knob the frequency control or something. That'd be about it for me.

I'll have to tell you more about her sometime. She's definitely a very special lady in many ways. Her boyfriend (the guy on the far left) is a very lucky man.Looks like you had a nice view, at least!
+1 or, I guess, that makes it +2. The contour does nothing for me - I'd prefer either a compressor or a semi-parametric but I really can't fault it as other than that, I love the amp. Used it tonight through a house Ashdown 8X10 - great tone, totally loud enough (excellent drummer - and there were monitors and mains - about 250 people but it would have been loud enough for the room even without the house reinforcement) only had to have it half way up - played both electric and upright - sounded terrific with both.
+1 on the contour. I never, ever use it. I'm sure others do.
I primarily use this head as a practice head to feed a USB interface for overdubbing, rough tracking. But tonight I just had my first mini-gig w/the MB200 backing some kids (including one of mine) at a music school. it was a low volume thang doing Ray Charles/Professor Longhair/blues stuff. It was so easy to carry and sounded fantastic through my Carvin BRX10.2 Neo. I didn't feel like I lost anything at a low volume and it was all nice and even.
If the feet were off, it would have fit in the string compartment of my hard case....
Feel free to remove them. Their screws don't do anything for anything in the amp.
It usually lives on a slick, wood topped desk, so it needs them for traction. Otherwise I would!
It's hysterical to see kids up there in their 'Black Veil Brides' shirts pounding out Big Chief and Mess Around (my daughter...
).
I don't want them to change a thing and risk messing something up. I'm assuming that they pulled lots of the features that the MB500 has as a cost measure, and only accidentally created one of the best sounding micros out there...
I had a fill-in gig last week and my regular rack was in the band equipment truck a few towns away.
I took a MB-200 and an 8x10, thinking the extra speaker area would help me fill a 200 person room with no PA.
It sure did. Sounded great, filled the room, wasn't even turned up half way, never ran out of headroom with a low B, and never got the slightest bit warm.

Very similar to my own experience. Interesting to know it handled it with the low B as well (I was just using 4 strings - but it did the lows of the upright very well, too).
The MB400 exists...2 MB200s. Seriously though, $450 gives you 2 200 watt amps, run a 2 ohm total load, and has backup preamp, DI, and amp module. 2 will fit in 1U if you want to rack them.

Need to fab up an airflow diverter for in between them so one isn't being hot-fed. Also need to make sure airflow ins and outs get a "clean shot." But with proper vigilance, it could be done.
Nice thing about having two of them is that the statistical probability of both breaking at the same time is insignificant, assuming no massive power spikes, and assuming the absence of field failure reports here is meaningful at this early date.
