GK mb200 ultra light head?

Just wanna say the MB200 + SVT210AV combination really does sound amazing. Just did a afternoon bar/restaurant casual thing with that and it really has a nice tight but round bottom end :) . I'd usually just bring a 1x10 combo for that but my stuff is all snowed in and I didn't feel like shoveling out access to my garage or trailer :( .

Got an MB200 myself tuesday... €260 but I could try before tossing the money :p
I tried it with one of my basses on both the 12" and 15" cabs (the same stuff put into the combos)... liked the 15", not bad. The 12" really wasn't my thing... too dry on the bass, lots of mids and mid-highs... luckily I didn't take the 112 combo without trying it or I'd be crying. ;)
Just one question for you "active bass" guys: if you don't enable the "pad" switch do you hear distorsion?

Last night I was fooling around with a Carvin BX250, trying to mimic the tone of an MB200 set flat. I haven't run curves on either amp but I can tell you that the BX set flat sounds very close to what true flat really is. Anyway, if you're contemplating an MB200, this might help you decide whether or not it'll be right for you. Please keep in mind this is ballpark, YMMV, and all the rest.

These are the settings I used to get the "MB200 flat" sound:

hey guys, just wanted to chime in about using the MB200 as a preamp. It definitely has the oomph to drive a power amp , and it doubles just fine as a headphone amp, to the point where my Bass Ace is probably gonna be for sale soon. Had to learn a bunch of songs and plugged the amp into my computer and it worked like a charm. I will keep this little guy in my gig bag as an all around back up head/pre.

The treble was all the way off ? Wow, that must be one bright amp !

I run the MB200 mostly "flat" with the treble down to about 10:30 into an SVT210AV. Into a 1x15 you have to roll off the bass to 10:00 and flatten the treble. Definitely not a flat amp but who wants that :p ? I want to play, not mess with a bunch of knobs ;) . I'm using nylon tapewounds on a fretted bass so YMMV.

That's how I run mine (and my BL600) most of the time. If it's into a cab with a midrange suckout, e.g. Avatar B212, then I pull back on the bass a bit, but that's all. Nothing could be simpler. But it all depends on whether you go for that deep/muscular sound in the first place. I do, 'cause I play bass old-school. For a slapper or an Entwistler, all bets are off.

My bad...I just woke up from a late night with me and my MB200! Seriously though, it does imply that either the carvin is very bright, or the GK has scooped highs. It doesn't. I wouldn't get hung up on the EQ settings between the amps too much. it sounds great flat. Full and constant sounded all up the neck, but with a nice little bit of richness that we all try to EQ in our amps.

That's great to hear. I'll have to try that.
I had a great time today using the Aux input on the MB200 with my Tascam bass trainer's output. It was pretty cool that the volumes were separate between the bass input and the aux input. Aux seems like a "fixed" output level that depends on the source volume. Playing everything through a 1x10, and it was such a useful little practice amp, that actually sounds good, and I know it can get quite loud if I need it to. :)
I'm still voting the MB200 as "Very cool".
