GK mb200 ultra light head?

That's a tough one. 160 watts at 8ohms would power the 1x12 well. The 2x12 at 8 ohm would be just a little bit louder, but only because of the extra cone area. Do you do a lot of quieter gigs or PA assisted gigs where a 1x12 would suffice most of the time? How much do you want to pack around a cab you don't need? You probably aren't going to hear 40 watts of extra power at 4 ohms, but you will hear that extra cone of the 2x12. If you tend to only need one 12 most of the time, get the 1x12, and pick up another one down the road for bigger shows and mobility. But, if you are willing to haul the 2x12 around (it's totally manageable), or tend to need 2x12s worth of volume always, then I would get the 2x12. You can get a bigger amp and feed it some real power down the road, or even add another 2x12 if you really need some volume. Im sure that didn't help, but I tend to be in the 1x12 crowd...and that's why I can get away with a 200 watt amp.

That's what I would do. Although, if you would never have a need for the smaller rig (with just one 1x12), then I could see it making sense to go straight for the Neo212-II. If you might sometimes use the 1x12, though, then the modular approach would be the best of both worlds.
Or just pair it with the berg AE212 which is 4 ohm and has a great form factor. That pairing sound really good to my ear and will be using it for a "small" gig Friday and Saturday.
Had a gig last night...used the MB200 and SVT210AV. Running at noon on the volume, the soundguy told me after soundcheck that he dropped the bass out of the mains and the bass didn't drop out in the room. I told him I would turn down before we started...but just a little...
We obviously aren't a crushing loud band (we only use 2 1x18 JBL Mpro subs in small sized bars), but I'll take that as a complement.

Does anyone have pictures of the inside of a MB500/2? Im interested in the fan circuit (just follow the fan back and see where it connects). To relate this post to the thread, I took the top off my MB200 to compare it to my faulty MB500/2, and it created some questions.

My MB 200 arrived today, and I've been thinking about getting a 4 ohm 210 cab. Any suggestions? Also, when is the headphone out operational, when the button is in or out ?

I would think about getting an 8ohm 2x10 instead of a 4ohm version. I haven't found anyone who bench tested real output power of the MB200, but the 40 watt increase spec'd from GK (going from 8 to 4 ohm) is barely going to be noticable. Going 4 ohms will max out your ability to add more speakers, but adding a second 8 ohm cab will give you some real output increase.
The headphone amp is on when the button is out, and Line out with the button is in.

Thanks, Wes. As this is probably going to be my grab and go rehearsal rig, I was looking for a 4 ohm cab. If I use the MB200 at all for my gig rig, it will be as a preamp into my QSC 1202. I sometimes gig with another band, straight ahead Chicago Blues, and might use it for that. I noticed alot of guys using it in a 212 , 4 ohm situation. Those new Schroeder 210's look interesting.
If the 2x10 or 2x12 is the only cab you plan on ever running on the MB200, then it would be a good pairing. I would still get an 8 ohm version though. You poweramp should drive it fine as well.

Thanks for that information, and that appears exactly right. Just like many previous posts, this MB200 continues to impress beyond my expectations, especially for less than $250.
I'm slowly rehabbing my hand, and bass playing is great therapy! I played a little with the MB200 and the Yamaha cab this morning, and even the low B sounded great! Great combination! I had previously plugged in 2 other bass heads into the Yamaha cabinet, and the MB200 sounds clearly the best through it so far. Great micro-rig match.

Even if we never find out what changes GK made (even if it was by accident!) to the preamp that made it sound so good, I'm glad they did. Without question, this is the best sounding GK I have ever had. I like the 400RBIII, but the MB200 still sounds better to me. I realize that sound is highly opinion based, but I'm happy. I stopped looking at the for sale forum for amps. Nothing is smaller, easier to setup and use, is as cheap, or sounds as good as this amp. I know I keep saying the same thing, but I have been using this for months now and I haven't changed my mind about it at all. As long as it never fails me, I'll be a supporter for a long time...

That's why I bought two of these and if the price is right....I could buy another.
Maybe it sounds so good because it IS 200 watts...maybe just the right amount of power for the GK timbre.... I love mine too...as I said before almost better than my main 2 amp Markbass set-up!
This thread has me exited. I have been looking for something to back up my GB shuttle 6 that I could tuck away in my gig bag. The 140/200 watts does not bother me in the least as I have used my 100/150 watt carvin combo for years and never been underpowered. After reading through, The shuttle might become the backup. I just got one from RMC Audio. Used a 10% coupon and got an MB200 for $224.00 delivered. That is too good to pass up. I can't wait for the little bugger to arrive. I have a TC Electronics 8ohm 2x10 and a GB neoX 4ohm 2x12, so I am expecting great things from this head whichever cabinet I use for a gig. John
