GK mb200 ultra light head?

I have been using my MB500 soft bag lately to carry my MB200 to gigs and practices (plug other gig stuff)...
The bag holds some stuff for it's size. 3 compartments, decent metal zippers and strap rings, and good padding between the two big pockets. Not many posts about the bag on here, but I have been happy with it.

Yamaha BBT110S. 250 watts, 4 ohms, adjustable tweeter. Inexpensive, and pretty highly rated on Talkbass. Should be a great match for the MB200.

. I don't recall anything bad written about it. I'll try it out soon. I broke my hand on Christmas day, so I'm not allowed to play bass for another 2 more weeks. "Boxer's break". Don't ever do it! I'm going to be much more careful from now on. I learned.
Ouch! I fell about a year ago in my house and broke my right hand(boxers break). I had to play a gig about a month later, I played any way! BTW, i almost like the gk mb200 better than my MoMark Markbass head!....did I say that out loud?

What does that little cab weigh?
How loud does that rig get? Would you think it'd be, say, giggable with a jazz combo in a small indoor spot?

I just gave it a quick tone and loudness test. It easily passed. The MB200 sounds excellent through the Yamaha cabinet. I was even able to crank the MB200 to 3 o'clock on the Gain, with all others at noon, and no breakup at all. Solid tone. The cab is 250 watts @ 4 ohms, not 200 like I previously stated.
The cabinet weighs in at about 30.6 lbs. Loud with a solid low end. I would say they are an excellent match, and certainly small gig ready. I'm starting to hear why this thread loves the MB200 so much. Once my hand heals, I'm going to really put some quality time into the MB200.

Ahhh yes... the venerable BBT110S. I also had a pair of these and they were IMPRESSIVE.
I always said if Yamaha ever made an 8 ohm version so a pair of them could be used with a wider array of amplifier brands and models, they wouldn't be able to make enough of them to keep up with demand.
The drivers in these cabs are not NEO, but still not very heavy... more importantly tho, they were custom drivers with an especially strong low end extension made specifically for Yamaha's BBT500 bass amp. It just so happens that amp has a lot of tonal crossover with all the Class D amps we're drooling over these days, such as Markbass, GK, Genz, Ibanez, SWR, etc., so it's no surprise they sound fantastic with one.
My MB200 continues to impress. Mostly, I use it with an Epifani 110, or maybe the 110/112 stack. I'm also gonna' try it out with a 410 and of course my GK Neo112-II cabs. I expect great results across the board.

You know, I still have two of them, and now I'm going to have to give one of them a whirl with the MB200!
I've really been digging mine with the Berg HT110, too, and I can see how it would work well with your Epifani cab(s), too, Vic.
Hmmm... I bet it'd go great with my 4-ohm Patterson (LDS) 2x8! Or, considering how good it sounded with Phil Maneri's 8-ohm VL-208's, I'll give it a go with my 4-ohm VL-208!
This little head certainly has exceeded all of my expectations in terms of not only tone, but also practical application.
I'm using mine with an older Epifani S1 110. It is by far the fullest tone I have ever had. Not the loudest, by far, but definitely the best sounding.
I've now heard this from multiple sources, including myself. I find it interesting that most seem to find this little amp to have some kind of tonal advantage to its bigger brothers. I'd like to know more about what might be the origin of how this amp's tone varies from the others... and more specifically than "it's a different design". That part is obvious.

I really don't know why. For reference, I'm comparing it to the last few heads that I have owned (EA Micro 300, EA iAmp 800, Markbass LMII, SWR 350 (Red Face). Some of those I have played though the same cabinet. To my ears this amp just sounds bigger. It's got super low end that stays tight and punch, mids that are present, but not overbearing and a nice top end. I'm willing to be that it's in the eq. When the controls are set flat, the frequency response is probably far from it. I think GK found a nice frequency response that a lot of players are digging. It would be nice to have someone "look under the hood" to see if there is anything unique that GK put into it to give it that sound though. It's just too bad that nobody from Bass Gear Magazine reads these threads ...

Does anyone know if the headphone/line out, when switched to line out, is post EQ, and is it strong enough to drive a power amp ? I'm thinking this might be a good candidate for a backup preamp.
It's definitely post EQ, which makes sense, because you wanna' hear your tone/EQ settings when practicing, I'd think... and I'd be surprised if it was unable to drive any respectable power amp.
This amp doesn't sound like any of my GKs I have ever had (I have shuffled through 7 GK amps in 11 years). It sounds better. This thing puts out punchy, full bodied, rich tone. It doesn't get thin on the high notes, and it doesn't get muddy on the low notes. Honestly, it's flat sound is what I have been trying to find for a long time. It has some grind/growl coloration that just sounds so good, and I don't need to blast it to get it there. The MB200 sounds so good to me that I would use it as a preamp if the stock 200 (160 watts in my case) wasn't enough. So far, it's been more than enough. Sure I had to send my first one back because it had noise and hum. The replacement one is absolutely quiet. I turn it on, and it is dead silent, even when the volume is pegged. No hiss. The quietest amp I have ever had. For $200-$250? It's the deal of the year if you ask me. This amp is not just a trainer tool. It's absolutely giggable.
